The Elevator Boy : A Short Story

in #travel6 years ago

Sitting down for hours in traffic can be frustrating, expecially when you have a lot on your mind to ponder over, well it gives you ample time to be lost in thought.

As your mind wonders, your body physically is absent to the happenings of those around you who perhaps are chattering like a chatter box, arguing about which player will win the golden boot or which club will win in the next championships league or who's wife can cook best, and who is driving the latest and mist expensive car

As the bus jammed its break,I was jolted from my day dream and to my amazement I had passed my destination, with the his realization I alighted quickly cross the pedestrian bridge and flagged a Taxi.

This time I was very conscious of were I am and my sorrounding became more obvious to me .
Few minutes walk down the less busy road saw me taking the lift to the 22th floor,It was late say around 11:30pm and everywhere was deserted.

The lift opened and I met a boy also trying to "climb the mountain too", and he was also going to the 21st floor so it happeneds I am a floor ahead of him and he will leave the lift before me .

On reaching the 21st floor,he closed the elevator again and just stood inside enjoying the ride, this act picked my interest and I was interested in what game plan this boy has in mind, a careful study shows that he is Asian, perhaps from Pakistan, and his age should be between 6 to 7 years old , slightly chubby and very hairy.

So I asked him why he did not alight from the elevator when he was supposed to, he said he enjoys the frills and thrills of going up and down am sure that's the message he wants to pass, and furtunately he commands good English, kids in this country speak very good english, this I must commend the educational system here in Dubai and of course the fees is commensurate with the learning I thiught, a very bright kid he asked me how was my day like he was an adult he also wanted to know my name .

I thought of how to make this kid leave the elevator as I wasn't in the mood to join the boys scout team and I told him a true story that happened to me back in my home country, how there was power failure and I was stuck in the elevator for days,no food,no water and it was damn hot, I shouted but no one could hear me, I was alone because it was on a weekend and all the company in the building have their weekend off,the elevator had broken down and the building maintenance guy was just perhaps in a bar drinking with friends.

I told him the story in such a scary way 😱🤪😵t hat he became sober and scared he was sweating profusely and he pressed the 21th floor botton again and as soon as the elevator pened he just jumped out with a surprising speed and rushed down 🏃🏃🏃to their flat, well I thought to myself that will put the fear of God in him, wondered if his parents are aware of his absence .

Kids are like to wonder off when we don't pay attention to them, expecialy when we are engrossed in a task or when we are fast asleep, they begin to devise their own way of amusement which can be detrimental to them . Parents always be conscious of your child's activities in and around the 🏠.Thanks for reading .
