ONE-DOLLAR MICROSCOPE: FOLDSCOPE

Have you ever heard of frugal science or frugal technology before?

It is simply defined as the art of designing and manufacturing regular devices like phones, watches, etc without incurring too much cost on the materials used.

What frugal science depict is that there is a way to produce devices without spending so much. All you need are the functional components and a little of secondary components to provide framework and support.

This is exactly what was considered when designing FOLDSCOPE. The idea is to reduce the problems of cost, fragility and mobility of the conventional microscope.

The main reason however is to put microscope in the hands every students so that they can Magnify their curiosities and learn the connection or interaction between the seen macro world and the unseen micro world.

More interestingly, FOLDSCOPE was designed with $1 budget and it proved to be successful and a usable tool in Science Education.

Although FOLDSCOPE is not meant to be used in the medical field, its applications ranges from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and even Geology and Engineering.

The aim is simple: Increase the level of discovery in all facets of science.

The designers are already working on coming up with a Medical FOLDSCOPE that would be specifically used in the medical field. Isn't Frugal science wonderful?!!
