The Reality of Nigerian Parenting.

Oh my, not after I thought I had seen it all, this man was going to make me misbehave and I was ready to give him a piece of my mind. I was on a bus and a man was on this journey with his little daughter, the child obviously had a road sickness which made her throw up almost all through the journey and this man was not being nice at all as he kept screaming at the child every time she had to throw up.

In order to avoid complications, the child had nothing to eat all through the journey but the vomiting would not just cease, the child appeared extremely weak and I wish there was something I could do to save the situation. Other women who sat beside the man had to take the child from him after he tried hitting her, the women cautioned him against the act reminding him that she was just a child while he looked at her with complete disgust.

After some time, he called his wife over the phone and screamed at her, while authoritatively telling her that it would be the first and last time he would ever travel with the child. I was really angry at this man for being insensitive and making it appear like it is the fault of the wife.

Most clearly, the mother must have been traveling with the child in a similar condition and has never complained about anything to her husband. For most Nigerian men, it has become the duty of the woman to take responsibility for the child regardless of how tired or busy she is, these men only parade their daughters when she is grown and she has done something he can be proud of. It is time for Nigerian men to get educated about what it really takes to be a proper parent if they want to settle down because I see no reason why you will claim to be a father and you will leave the child-bearing responsibility on the shoulder of the mother.

The sad part of things like this is the fact that there are hundreds of Nigerian women who believe it is their responsibility to look after the children and the men should simply relax and get served.

My heart goes our to the little girl. That is called motion sickness, it happens to some adults as well. It will happen to the father some day for him to appreciate the daughter.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us

Sad reality. I belief men who behave a such are really not men. The first responsibility of Every man is to be a protector. It is so sad to have a father who is not one😒

Yeah, it's really appaulling that we are made to believe that lie. But what can we really do? We spend most of the times with the children. It's really unfortunate.

I still believe we need to educate them on the need to help out with these things oooo.
