Spirea flowers
Spirea
Today I'm drawing the beautiful white flowers of a spirea, which has come into full bloom this springtime. There are many varieties of this deciduous shrub, around 80-100 species.
I first drew this plant in May when the shrub was covered in tiny buds, you can see them here in my post Spherical Buds.
The photographs below show the plant in my garden, if you look carefully you can see some small flies on the petals, it seems to be a bit of a hit with the insects!
Drawing inks
I used black drawing ink to draw the spirea flowers, using a combination of a dip pen and a brush to apply the ink to the paper. I wanted to create a combination of delicate and bold lines, giving the piece a stylised design.
Watercolours
After drawing the Spirea flowers using drawing ink I began to add gentle accents of colour using watercolours. I went for a palette of sap greens and zesty yellows.
Awesome inking!:) You inspered me to do some brush inking today too:)
Yes, do it! I like the difference in line you get with a brush.
I usually use chinese brushes, they give even more:)
delicate :)
Steemit community is blessed to have talented pool of people like you...keep up the good work :)
That's very sweet, thank you.
Lovely :) My parents have a spirea bush in the side yard, except the centers are not pink. I think they're yellowish, so actually much more like your painting :)
There are lots of different varieties, i have ones with pink flowers in my garden too, but they are not in bloom at the moment.
Those are beautiful flowers!
---@cmgsteems I'm 8 years old and loving Steemit! :)

have a beautiful day
It's getting there, most of my plants have only been in for a couple of years so there is some way to go before my garden matures.
Your art is so in flow. Huge admiration coming from me! And you're killing it here sister, respect! High five to UK! Keep on shining! @opheliafu !
Giving you a high five back!! ✋ 🌸🌸

really lovely drawing and also, beautiful photos!
Hey @natureofbeing, thank you very much!!
Thank you so much for sharing your process. I am learning a lot from you and your beautiful pictures. I need to draw more from nature. Perhaps I will challenge myself with that next week.
Weather permitting i try and sit outside to draw and paint, i think the work has a nice energy to it that way.
just love it @opheliafu
nothing else to say
Thank you @raja, that's nice to hear!
You could also make colouring in pictures for people, would love to see all your flowers on one page :)
That's a good suggestion, I'd need to adapt them slightly so that the lines meet.
Would like to see that post :)
