Experiencing Our First Rain in 2022, Upon Long Waiting. How Excited Farmers Have Become 🥰✌️🎉
19th February 2022, to me is a blessing day for me. It is the day we experienced rain in this 2022 over here in Nsuta - Ashanti. Many farmers have long waited to get their first rain, especially, the yam and maize Cultivators. After preparing the land. The next action is to sow the seeds and wait for germination of the seeds. When the rain delays, it affect the cycle of the crop growth, maturation and the quantity one expect to have.
We are therefore lucky to have this first rain after hot weathers. It was Lecture time and around 5 pm, the cloud was formed indicating the design of rainfall. But, this design of cloud formation has always deceiving us. But being lucky the ground was heavily wet. It rained more than an hour with great intensity and storm. I was in the SDA school studying my books when the rain prevented my motion to home. I had to stand under the roof and wait for it to subside.

These mounds have been inserted with yam sets and we were waiting for the rain to pour for the germination of the yam sets to be Initiated. We are even afraid some of the yam sets could have been scorched due to the hot sun and higher temperatures. This really a threat to all yam farmers when the rain delays like this. Only few yam sets which have heart and hardier can withstand in times of this condition. Now that we have experienced our first rain, we believe the seeds would sprout now.
We would say that, the delay of rain has caused more mess. Since many lands with vegetation have burnt completely. Due to the dryness of leaves, most areas were prone to fire outbreak with slightest mistake one commits. The organic matter forming residue have been eradicated leaving the land bear. The most serious ones are where the lands would not be farmed this year. Most burrowing animals like crickets, termites and ants were also affected in this fire devastation. I captured few areas when I was eye witness to this severe bush fire in palm Plantation.
We hope that this rain would limit the intensity of bushfire. Farming would begin to plant their yam sets and soon maize farmers would also sow their maize when we have second and third rain. Thanks for your attention!
Nice to see the first rain of the year has dropped over there. We are still waiting for it this side although there are some signs it would soon fall. I am planning on venturing into farming this year.
