The official announcement on Arsenal’s website even classified Havertz as a midfielder, with manager Mikel Arteta emphasizing the additional strength he would bring to that area of the pitch.

However, as the season has progressed, the dynamics have changed. Havertz has increasingly found himself deployed in a more advanced role, leading the line as Arsenal's central striker. Arteta explained the shift, noting that player positioning often evolves based on the chemistry developed on the pitch. “Often, the players themselves dictate their position on the field. You may have initial ideas, but when you see certain connections forming, you have to adapt. That’s what happened with Havertz,” Arteta remarked. Now, Havertz has emerged as the first-choice center forward, with Arteta appreciating the balance and versatility he adds to the team's attack.

The arrival of Mikel Merino further complements this tactical flexibility. Merino, like Havertz, possesses a unique blend of physical prowess and tactical intelligence. His introduction allows Arsenal to revisit their earlier plan, with Declan Rice anchoring the midfield in the No. 6 role, while Merino partners with Martin Ødegaard in the No. 8 positions.
