The Hidden Lake

It had been a few months since I met my close buddies. That was when we discussed getting back together at our school's sports meet. Usually, they were the friends who roamed with me in the class days. Unfortunately, they couldn't catch up with me at the batch party. So it was after some days I got to meet them.

We met in the Negombo and went to Wennappuwa by using our usual medium of transportation. There is a shop on our school road with imported snacks and ice cream. It had been our hangout spot back in school days. We loved eating ice cream there. We popped in there on the way to the school. I tried a Faluda as I was thirsty.

We went to school and then it became boring under that sunny weather. We were not wearing our school uniforms. Because of that, we were not allowed to enter from the main gate.

There is a lake in Wennappuwa. It is hidden there only about 200 meters away from the main road. It is like 50 meters from the school. We decided to go to the Wennappuwa Wewa and spend some time there.

There is a road along the lake filled with trees giving some shelter. We walked through and some people had come to catch fish too.

I should say the lake is polluted with the waste around. There were different kinds of birds living near freshwater sources.

It is a calm environment despite the pollution. There were a few people except us. The only problem was there wasn't any bench to sit on. We captured the moments and collected many photos of us. We spent more than an hour there and stepped back to the school.

Back in the day, I never knew or thought of a lake in that town. When I knew I was surprised as it was like whole two different worlds a few meters apart.
