The gap between the wages of men and women in Germany remained constant in 2018 compared to the previous year, with the average wage for women at 17.09 euros, down 21 percent from men (21.60 euros), according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics.

The gap is due to the fact that women are mostly employed in low-wage sectors and a small number are in managerial positions.

According to the data of the Office, 47% of women working in Germany in 2017 were working part-time, compared to only 9% of men.

Many women attributed their part-time work to the need for childcare and other family and personal obligations.

The larger number of men working part-time said they did so in order to allow them time to study or to receive additional training.
