How this all got started. The very first time I ever entered @openmic. "Moon Hanging Low" .. . This is what made me fall in love with you guys. All the sweetness. You made it feel like home to me, and it still does. THANK YOU!

Well.. .I thought I would take a little trip down memory lane this morning. Looking through all my old videos on YouTube and I found this. What an important day this turned out to be for me!

I actually recall that day very clearly.. Fun fact, I almost did not even enter the contest because everything I kept recording was TERRIBLE and it was time for me to go pick up my daughter from school and I was about to be late

Even in this recording, I kept screwing up the chords because I was so nervous. I was very brand new to being on camera online and did not like doing it!

But this was the point at which I just said "Screw it." And then I said, literally.. "If it sucks, it sucks." And threw caution to the wind and took a chance on being ridiculed.

Turns out I screwed up and only used a DTube link to begin with.. so I almost got disqualified! Haha. Typical Serena. But I fixed it.

And that was that.

And I will not ramble on here too much. I'll just share it, and to be sappy for a moment.. the @openmic community (which therefore led to helpie and pal!) has been my very favorite thing about steemit this whole past year. And I have been a terrible friend to it lately, not interacting as I should have been.

But! That is about to change. In fact, I want to find a way to say thanks from our kitchen over at @helpicake. It's being discussed already, we're just working out the recipes. Stay tuned!

My love song for the moon. ♥

I've never entered the openmic before. This is my entry for the Week 74 contest. I'm not sure if I'm entering correctly, to be honest. This song is one I wrote many years ago called "Moon Hanging Low." I have an infatuation with the moon. It's almost an unhealthy obsession, really.

I wrote this song one day when I was really sad, and felt very alone, and looked up at the moon and it comforted me.

P.S. That is my cat, Twinkie, on the couch behind me. Occasionally he moves a little bit. Ha ha! I have another cat as well, named Waffle. Yes, both of my cats are named after supercarbs. I love them so much. The cats. But also carbs. It's true.

Moon Hanging Low

I don't think the rain
can wash this away
this wound is too deep

But don't worry about me
I'll paint on my smile
this world is too shallow

There is the moon
hanging low

orange glow
