AN INCREDIBLY HARD SPECIES TO PHOTOGRAPH
The worm snake is one of the most beautiful fossorial snakes that we can find on our property, but they are impeccably hard to get a good photograph of.
I used a trick that I know of to get some photos of this one. Since these are fossorial snakes, they like to spend their time burrowing under the surface of the soil. This is why although they may be common in an area, they may seldom or even never be seen.
To solve part of this problem, I placed the snake on a rock. Moreover, since these creatures actively seek the soil, I actually took a small cup and placed it over the snake, on top of the rock. After a while, the snake will momentarily give up on its search for soil, and that's when you quickly remove the cup and start snapping photos, before it slithers off of the rock and begins to burrow into the earth. My efforts paid off on these photos, so appreciate them for what they are. Enjoy!
Hardcore... they look very intimidating but beautiful, the black and red really blends pretty well.
