THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 5 - BLACK RAT SNAKE
This is the official longest snake in North America!
@Papa-pepper is very happy that the Black Snake Snake (Pantherophis obsoletus) is so common here in Arkansas. The ones that we had up in Wisconsin were considered to be a threatened species, which means that there were a lot less of them and you were not allowed to possess them.
These snakes are very good climbers that can reach over eight feet in length. Because of their climbing abilities, both birds and their eggs are included in the diet of the Black Rat Snake, as well as smaller mammals and reptiles.
When confronted, these snakes are known to defend themselves by biting, but they are non-venomous and mostly harmless to humans. On the homestead they can eat poultry eggs and smaller animals like chicks, ducklings, quail, and rabbits, so they can become a nuisance. However, they do keep the rodent population in check.
The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

Well Dang! @xtrodinarypilot63 - I had to kill a copperhead just last week for a Neighbor.
Did you eat it?
Haha, Nope! It was only about 18inches long, and there wasn't much left of it after I finished killing it for her.
Sure it wasn't a rat snake? lol
Dangit! Now that i'm thinking of it, it was actually a cotton mouth!!!
People often confuse them for copperheads at first glance.
There can be a lot of confusion with snakes.
Awesome man! You might be the next Steve Irwin
That would be cool.
Nooooo! I don't want @papa-pepper to die from one of his Wild Friends.
I remember the crocodile hunter who died for a stingray
Enjoyed as always! Just walked up on one of these out by my compost pile the other day! Startled me but realized what it was then just watched as it did it's thing. She was about 4 feet, maybe a tad less but very kool to watch non the less. Gave a 10 min break from the chores to chill with nature a bit. Good times. See ya' Papa.
thats awsome
We let all these snakes live. No point in killing them when they help to keep the mice down. I like to think of them as homestead employees. The rattlers on the other hand are like the employees who come to work drunk and start throwing things at the customers...they have to go!
@papa-pepper, please do a video on the pygmy rattler!!
I will. Thanks man!
That's fearless and cool @papa-pepper !
Does that Black Snake Moan? 🤔
🙂
I have pleasure to meet black rattlesnake. But I never get idea to handle him like you! :-) Stay sharp papa!
So, what's the trick for getting so close to those bad boys? You have a magic flute, or is it just sheer fearlessness?
Cool post man, but i still cant share you love for snakes :P
my first and last experience with those animals is that I stepped on one while walking to the beach. Was in Australia few 100km below Sydney. caused me to smoke a few extra the next minutes after it happened.
Stepping on the unexpectedly can be no fun.
We get rat snakes routinely on our land, and they are big! We almost always found them in the chicken coop, going after the eggs. Naughty stinkers. We just relocate them to another part of the acreage.
Cool post...
you awesome!!:)
Thank you @eduardo88.
