Review Garmin Vivoactive 3 - Smartwatch for Fitness Activists

in #technology6 years ago

Brand Garmin must have been known by fans of fitness gadgets because they have been actively issued gadgets to support fitness activities since the early 2000s ago.

Not long ago they released a smartwatch Garmin Vivoactive 3 in Indonesia that is targeted for users who want to monitor their activities and health.

In Indonesia alone Garmin Vivoactive 3 is sold at 4.99 million rupiah for black / stainless and white / stainless variants while for black / slate color variants are sold at 5.49 million rupiah.

The design is simple and not prominent, to be honest it does not look like a luxury clock when the price is quite expensive. Glass watches use glass Gorilla Glass 3 while the frame uses stainless steel. For the watch strap using a comfortable silicone material in hand and easy to remove.

For the screen, the resolution is not large only 240 × 240 pixels. Small enough when compared with other current smartwatch resolutions that are usually above 300 pixels.

When viewed from close range, the quality of the display screen looks smooth and the color rather dark. But for normal use which usually distance between clock and eyes far enough, the quality of the display screen is quite ok and not too visible edges are not smooth on the picture.

The screen itself is actually never dead, always active, it's just backlightnya dim if not detected the movement of hands like watching the clock. When we move our hands like we want to see the clock, the backlight will automatically activate.

Interestingly, smartwatch screen is even brighter if outdoors when exposed to sunlight than in the room. This is because Garmin Vivoactive 3 uses a transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) type screen.

For his own smartwatch performance smoothly every time I use. The animation when operating smartwatch is smooth enough for the smartwatch level and I have never encountered an error during use.

Battery

Battery endurance for smartwatch type can be said good. When I try to use the usual smartwatch-style (the majority just as the clock and the notifier), the smartwatch can last up to 5 days. However, if using the GPS feature on this smartwatch then the battery will run faster.

For the process of charging the battery does not take long. It only takes 1 hour 15 minutes to charge the battery from 15% to 100% using a 2 ampere charger.

Unfortunately, to charge the battery must use a special cable so can not use the standard USB cable and also the length is rather short. It also does not provide a battery charger adapter. For the charger adapter can use the adapter commonly found in smartphones.

Because this is a smartwatch Garmin output, of course pinned various features around fitness. In fact, I think this smartwatch more to the fitness tracker than regular smartwatch in general.

Want to record indoor sports activities? Can. Want to record Yoga activity? Can. Want to record golf activities? Can. In total there are 22 activities that can be recorded in Garmin Vivoactive 3 and it also can be added again with bekreasi make their own activities.

Whatever fitness needs are worth noting, most likely will be found on this smartwatch. The GPS embedded on the smartwatch is also accurate enough to record the activities associated with moving around like running or cycling.

In addition to fitness applications, Garmin Vivoactive 3 also uses a heart rate scan technology located at the bottom of its smartwatch. This Smarwatch will actively record our heart rate and sleep patterns during its smartwatch is used.

When we use this smartwatch and do not perform movement activities such as walking after a certain time span, its smartwatch will actively provide notifications that suggest us to move the road on foot.

The features that exist in this smartwatch in addition to more fitness features as a supporter of fitness activities such as music controllers and displays notifications that appear on the smartphone.

One of the rather annoying features of this smartwatch notification is that we can not set which applications on smartphones that can be displayed on his smartwatch. If we're listening to music on a smartphone that raises a notification when the music is played, then each of his smartwatch tunes will continue to vibrate as it is considered a new notification.

Actually there is one other interesting feature in this smarwatch is Garmin Pay. Through this feature, we can store credit card data inside smartwatch so that it can perform transaction only through this smartwatch. But unfortunately this feature does not seem to be used in Indonesia.

Companion Application

Garmin Vivoactive 3 can be paired with either Android or iOS-based smartphones. Once paired, this smartwatch will be able to use additional features such as displaying notifications that appear on the phone and music settings.

To pair the Garmin Vivoactive 3 with the smartphone of choice, a Bluetooth connection is required and the use of the Garmin Connect app on the destination smartphone.

Through the Garmin Connect app, we will be able to organize and view various data from the Garmin Vivoactive 3 smartwatch used. Some settings on this smartwatch can only be done in the Garmin Connect app such as adding a new watch face or a smarwatch software update.

When I attached the Garmin Vivoactive 3 to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone via bluetooth, there was no noticeable change in battery power usage.

Conclusion

Garmin Vivoactive 3 in my opinion is a smartwatch that is great for those who want to record fitness activities or body health.

Using this smartwatch may be a bit confusing at the beginning but it is actually easy to learn how to use it. There are many features available either in the smartwatch feature itself or in the companion application so it will take time to explore all its features.
