Brief History Of Eggon Carnival
Eggon being the most populated and one of the peaceful people among other tribes of Nasarawa State have come up with an annual days carnival to keep culture alive because
Culture is the way of life
Furthermore, I want to share about a cultural festival called Ame Wo Ba Eggon: Eggon Carnival.
This is a festival celebrated annually by the Eggon people of Nasarawa State for the past 10 year though visitors are also welcome.
This carnival last for four days each year between 27th to 30th December with different activities and it's foster at keeping the history of the Eggon nation to the younger generation because technology seems to be taking the attention of the young folks therefore rendering the culture insignificant and it's another way of keeping people company after the hustle of life all year round.
Activities of The Carnival
Like I mentioned earlier, it's a feast for four days designed with different activities to keep the culture alive. The activities include:
- Beauty pageant: this is done by both male and female contestants to show case the rich culture of the Eggon people depending on the tasks given to them by the judges and the could be traditional dance, cooking, recitation and other things.

- March pass: the people march from the Aren's (King) palace through the city down to Eggon Community Secondary School where is normal venue of the events. The purpose of march pass is to pay homage to the King before showcasing different cultural troupes and attires through the town because there are non indigenous people residing in the city that needs to see the beauty of the Eggon people.

|---|
- Display of traditional artifact: different artifact such as clay pots, bow, arrow, shield, spare, wrappers, beads and animal skins are being displayed to remind the younger generation what our forefathers used before the coming of technology.

|---|
- Masquerades display: like most African countries, the Eggon people also have their masquerades (bibli) and they also showcase their dance steps to the people
- Display of variety of traditional foods: it was realized that many in this generation have no idea of what our ancestors ate back in their days because of modern fast foods and junks. So this aspect is shown and explained the nutritious foods in Eggon land. Such foods are ebepken, ombgu, susu, etc
Others Activities
There are also modern activities like musical display, popcorn stand, bouncing castle, face painting and the likes to harmonize the carnival
If you happen to be in Nasarawa State between 27th to 30th December so every year, make out time to witness the rich culture of the Eggon people at ECSS Nasarawa Eggon.
I am inviting @yakspeace to join the contest and I am @patience90

Hello @patience90,
This is my first time experiencing a festival that is different from the ones we are used to. This is my first time hearing of a festival from Nasarawa State.
I like the purposes why they hold the event. At the core it is to make us not forget our root back to ancestry.
Oh yes and thanks for your comment
