Calorie Counting: Does it Work
Weight loss is a common goal of many men and women through the United States. Many people are willing to try anything to accomplish this goal. The growing trend of diet pills, surgeries, and fancy diets have become common ways for this accomplishment. However with all the new weight loss fads, many people have forgot about the basic tricks to lose weight. Although calorie counting is often shunned by dieticians, if done right, it can result in healthy weight loss.
Calorie Counting is more than just counting numbers; it also involves choosing healthy foods. It is important that a person who chooses to calorie count understand the appropriate number of calories to limit their daily diet to. Too much of a calorie limit may result in hunger and slow down metabolism due to lack of food. Cutting only a couple hundred calories out of a person's diet a day can lead a person to lose a few pounds a month. A couple hundred calories a day is only has much as a glass or two of soda pop or a candy bar. It is also important for a person who is cutting back to make sure that the calories they are eating are not fat calories. Fat calories are a good way to determine whether the food should be avoided or not.
There are many benefits to calorie counting. First, people begin to realize just how many calories certain foods have. Some of these foods people believe are healthy such as juice which actually can cause weight gain if too much is drunk. This will also show people who habitually snack, how many calories their small portioned snacks can actually have. It also shows people their diet weaknesses that will kill any attempt at losing weight. This would include chips, cookies, soda, and other slip ups people have. Another benefit is that people begin eating smaller portion of their meals because they become aware of the actual size of a serving size. Many people will buy low fat or fat free foods but then will eat three times what the serving size is which defeats the whole purpose of the low percentage of fat. Overall calorie counting can help people see the affects of their effort.
Even though calorie counting has often been discourage for dieters, if done correctly and understood well, it can be an effective tool in weight loss. It's cheap, efficient, and for the most part painless. With the new hundred calorie snack packs and the growing number of calorie calculators and nutrition labels online, it is becoming an easy way to control weight.
