SC-S28/W3-Movie Highlights|Voices unheard- Haldaa
I am happy to participate in the 3rd week of Steemit Challenge season 28. Thank you @ruthjoe for giving this opportunity to us. It is a great feeling watching true story based movies.
Watch a film that focuses on marginalized or underrepresented communities.Example films: Moonlight, The Farewell, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, Sound of Metal
“Haldaa” movie, which focuses on the emotions, struggles and human responsibility towards nature of Bangladesh’s river-based life, depicts the lives of the people living around the Halda River in the southern part of Chittagong, Bangladesh, their happiness and sorrows, the struggle to protect the mother fish of the river and the long fight against the forces that destroy nature in a very realistic, sensitive and cinematic manner. Directed by Tauqir Ahmed, it is a powerful film.
Halda is a river in Bangladesh . The struggle of the local people for survival, the change of the river, love-hate-revenge, all together, “Haldaa” is not just a story, but a song of sigh, pain and hope of a river. A short details of this movie.

What new perspective or culture did this movie introduce you to?
“Haldaa” introduced me to the struggle of the people along the banks of the Halda River, their survival centered on the river, their silent battle to protect the mother fish of the river, and a kind of different river culture.
In particular, the Halda River is the world's only natural “breeding center for carp fish”, which was new information for me.
After watching the movie, I realized how dependent and fragile the lives of people dependent on the river are.It presented a new reality of how river pollution, industrial waste, and dam construction create crises in their lives.
Were there any stereotypes challenged or broken in the film?
Yes, the movie “Haldaa” has broken several stereotypes.
People across the river do not just mean helpless or uneducated. The movie has shown that they (people living on the banks of the river) are very aware of nature, experienced and active in protecting the environment.
The idea of considering female characters as weak. Here, the character Hasu, who is a female character, is very strong, struggling and emotional but also realistic.
Local people are an obstacle to development. The movie has also proven this idea wrong. Rather, it has shown that unplanned industrialization is the main reason for the destruction of nature.
Which character's journey did you relate to the most?
![]() | Confused Hasu |
|---|---|
![]() | Broken Hasu |
![]() | Fighter Hasu |
I have mentioned earlier that the most profound and heart-warming character in this movie is Hasu. His journey seemed to me the most human, real, and painful. Hasu is a river-centered working woman. Her entire life is centered around the river. River fishing, river water, the joy of the river and the tragic reality of the river. There is a strength in her that reflects the lives of many neglected people in society. Also, throughout the movie, Hasu fights a kind of battle for survival. She has to survive in the midst of poverty, natural disasters, social injustice. This struggle is a reflection of the lives of many women and working people in our country.
What’s one message from the film that stuck with you?
The movie “Haldaa” basically gives a deep message about the relationship between humans and nature, especially the importance of protecting rivers. The most striking message among them is— Nature is ours, but we are not nature’s, if we do not protect it, we will lose ourselves.”
Protecting the mother fish of the Halda River is not just a local issue; it is a symbol of the struggle for the survival of mankind. The movie shows that when human greed, wrong development plans, and ignorance destroy nature, ultimately humans suffer. It made me think deeply about environmental conservation.
I am inviting my friends @sohanurrahman @jahangeerkhanday and @pathanapsana to have a look on this challenge.
