Adwaita the tortoise
Adwaita the tortoise (Calcutta zoo), thought or believed to be one of the oldest creatures in the world was claimed to have been born in the 1750s (1750 ; unverified) died on 22nd march, 2006.
Tortoise are associated with life longevity, and there were several documented cases of long lived tortoises, such as Tui Malila (aged 188), Harriet (aged 175) to mention few. This probably explained why Adwaita lived well into/above 200 years of age. Calcutta zoo officials even claimed Adwaita's age is far older than 250 years, this claim is unverified.
Whatever age it turn out to be, Adwaita is one old 'wise' tortoise, a Methuselah of tortoise world.
