Building A Stronger Immune System

I just wanted to leave a few tips/supplements advising how people can boost their immune system. These ideas can be equated to both this moment in time and indeed any time of the year. Taking a proactive approach to looking after your health is as much about mental health as it is physical health. For those that are sitting at home worrying about getting ill, I feel (hope) that this knowledge helps alleviate that feeling of helplessness.

Kefir

A sobering thought is that fact that our bodies carry a huge multitude of illnesses and as such it’s the health of our gut and immune system that stops these potential diseases from coming to fruition. The key to stopping those diseases making us ill is a healthy gut, from that perspective gut health should be the key foundation to any health plan. Indeed, as we age and with the consumption of processed food our guts become leaky and as such the vast majority of food passes through our body with no nutritional benefit. The kefir basically restores the stomachs natural bacterial balance and enables the absorption of essential nutrients.

Buy your own kefir grains (not shop bottles), add them to full-fat goats (or cows) milk then leave them for 24hrs drain the milk and then drink it. You can repeat this process and if you look after the grains they will last forever, don’t worry if you're lactose intolerant once the kefir has fermented the milk, it is easier to absorb than dairy products. You can also get grains of Kefir that can be used in water, plus Kombucha mushroom is well worth looking into.

Chaga Mushroom & Tincture

Chaga is the king of the medicinal mushrooms, it contains possibly one of the highest, if not the highest, antioxidant concentrations in the world, this is a fact that has been extensively documented. The power of ancient trees is present in Chaga, it's an adaptogen, which means its compounds increase the body's ability to adapt to stress, fatigue, anxiety and illness. It has strong immune-enhancing properties and very high levels of antioxidants. Chaga is a fungus that draws its nutrients and derives its extracts from the inner layers of the bark of the tree from which it grows on. Chaga contains B and D vitamins and lots of protein which promote health over stress, low mood and lack of energy.

Chaga possesses potent immune-supporting properties and it is a rich source of beta glucans, and polysaccharides that are essential nutrients for the immune system. These polysaccharides have strong anti-inflammatory and immune balancing properties, enhancing the body’s ability to produce natural killer cells to battle infections.

Black Seed Oil

Black Seed Oil (also called Black Cumin seed oil, Kalonji Oil, and Nigella Sativa Oil) has been revered as a medicinal herb with a whole host of healing capabilities for nearly 4000 years. Actually the first study of Black Seed Oil was published in 1959. Since that time, hundreds of studies have shown extraordinary results supporting the benefits and uses of the Black Seed.

Although Black seed oil was used by ancient cultures for thousands of years, only in the last century has it been possible to study its actions. A great deal of the studies dealt with the volatile oil of the seeds and its major constituents. These studies showed a multi-range of actions that covered almost all known ailments of man in the various body systems. It is the aromatic oils that contain most of the anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-fungal and immune-enhancing activity.

Liposomal Vitamin C

When a regular capsule or pill is ingested it must first pass from the mouth through the digestive system to finally be absorbed in the small intestine. During this process, digestive enzymes in the mouth and stomach, digestive acids, bile salts and various gut flora degrade the nutrients before they are finally metabolised by the liver and made available to the body. This entire process slows and reduces the nutrients' bioavailability. Phospholipids are impervious to the various digestive juices. This makes liposomes the perfect delivery system for acid and enzyme-reactive substances. In a nutshell, a liposome allows the nutrient to be delivered directly to exactly where it is needed, inside the cell.

Use Celtic Sea Salt, Not Refined Salt

Among the minerals and trace elements in Celtic sea salt are calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, zinc and iodine. "The trace and ultra-trace elements are found in the earth's crust and it is these that give the vital grayish color," says Regenerative Nutrition. "The slight moisture reflects the ability of the crystals to retain the salts and minerals in a form that the body can assimilate."

Scientific analysis demonstrates that Celtic Sea Salt contains at least 75 minerals and trace elements such as Sodium, Potassium, Sulphur, Calcium, Iron, Phosphorus, Iodine, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, Chloride, Silicon and more. Real salt is perhaps the most essential nutrient, and definitely the most misunderstood. It is an exceptional product as it is naturally extracted by the use of sunshine. Its properties re-create the amazing powers of the ocean and it bears an astonishing likeness to human blood and body fluids. During World War II, navy doctors would use sea salt water for blood transfusions when blood supplies ran out and many lives were saved. Notably, the environment of an unborn baby is water and salt.

Iodine

Firstly iodine is great at stimulating hormone production and converting it to thyroxine, this process enables the thyroid to balance and thus function correctly. The thyroid helps to regulate our sleep cycles, internal organs and (like Kefir) the absorption of food nutrients. Iodine is also a scavenger of free hydroxyl radicals and thus helps boost our bodies ability to fight disease. Similar to vitamin c, it also stimulates our bodies antioxidants and thus strengthens our bodies ability to fight disease.

Crushed Garlic

Garlic has been shown to clean your blood and clear clogged arteries. Of course, it's great to cook with garlic but the best way to use it is raw and crushed. The crushing action causes an enzyme reaction that boosts the garlic health properties, in order to optimise these properties it's best crushed at room temperature and then left to sit for fifteen minutes. Indeed as amazing as it is eating raw garlic is not a quick health fix, conversely, the chemical reaction caused by the crushing process creates a natural anti-biotic that can help your body fight illness.

The compound activated by the crushing process is called Allicin and alongside its antibiotic abilities, it also helps fight inflammation and acts as an antioxidant. Allicin also contains sulfur which is critical for cellular detoxification and chemical removal. It is absorbed well then quickly metabolized to benefit the cardiovascular system and the rest of the body.

Zinc

Zinc has been shown to impede the replication of numerous viruses. This study conducted in 1996 displays that those using zinc lozenges alleviated cold symptoms three days earlier than those taking placeboes. This study was repeated and further validated by the Cochrane review in 2013. In 2010 a University of Leiden study reported that zinc inhibits replication of SARS-CoV, by disabling the virus’s RNA-synthesis ability.

Fresh Air, Sunshine & Vitamin D

The restorative power of both direct sunlight (or if the sun isn't an option vitamin D3 supplements) and fresh air should not be underestimated. During the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, it was noted by doctors that severely ill patients nursed in makeshift outdoor hospitals recovered better than those treated indoors. Later research would validate these observations, displaying that sunlight is germicidal and fresh air could be considered a natural disinfectant. Named the open air factor, in 1950's scientists conclusively proved that fresh air destroys the influenza virus and airborne bacteria. Sunlight is also known to kill the bacteria that cause lung infections, and throughout the First World War, military surgeons routinely used the disinfectant qualities of sunlight to heal infected wounds.

Final Thoughts

From elderly family members that I'm in contact with, I understand that taking a proactive approach to health can help alleviate worry and stress, both of which destroy our body's ability to combat disease. I just hope that some of these ideas help people to realise that they are not a slave to fate and that in many ways the power exists within our hands and the decisions we make. Take ownership of your health to calm the involuntary responses of the Basal Ganglia (the reptilian brain) and keep physically and mentally strong.

Thank you for reading, until next time I will leave to decide who has the perceptualflaws.
