STEEMCHURCH: SIN AND HOW IT CAME ABOUT

Gen 1 vs 31,
"And God saw everything that he had made,and,behold,it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day."

When God created the Heaven and Earth,He saw that everything He made was good. Then it moved from good to very good and He was pleased with it. Then the first encounter He made with man was the word He said in Genesis 1 vs 28,
"And God blessed them, and God said unto them,Be fruitful, and multiply,and replenish the earth and subdue it:and have dominion over the fish of the sea,and over the fowl of the air,and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth "

Man started enjoying the garden and all the blessings God pronounced to him,which made God create a woman out of his rib and formed her and became Adam's wife called Eve.

They started well until SIN came in. (Gen 3:1-6). When sin came,it came with four involvement which are;

• Shame
• Fear
• Curse
• Hard labour

WHAT IS SIN? Sin is an offense, transgression that is committed. It also means doing contrary to God's word. According to 1John 3:4,it is defined as the breaking or transgression of God's law. When we sin,darkness takes over because a person who is committing a wrong thing can never do so in broad daylight except in the dark where he would not be seen. Sin draws us far away from God and wouldn't allow us communicate freely with Him.

1 SHAME After Adam and Eve had committed this great sin by disobeying God, they were ashamed of themselves seeing that they were naked.
Gen 3:7,
"And the eyes of them both were opened,and they knew that they were naked;and they sewed fig leaves together,and made themselves aprons."

When a person commits a grievous sin and is exposed, he will be ashamed because what he was doing in the dark has been revealed.

2 FEAR As the Bible says, "a sinner runneth when no one is chasing him". When a person commits sin,he will be afraid and wouldn't have peace of mind. That was in the case of Adam and Eve in Gen 3:8-10,
"And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day:and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam,and said unto him,Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid,because I was naked;and I his myself"

When a person is seen doing bad thing,he will be afraid of not been caught in the act.

3 CURSE After that,God cursed them both because of what they did. That is how it will be for people who make people cry either by stealing or killing their loved ones and they place a curse on them which they will nurse for the rest of their lives unless God intervenes.

4 HARD LABOUR People caught in the act of doing wrong are being punished for their offense or better still if it warrant killing them too,they are killed.

Many people fail to realize the terror of sin,so they play with it. If only they knew how painful sin is,they would rather stay far from it. Romans 3:23 says, "for the wages of sin is death ". Death is not only limited to physical death but also goes beyond every part of our life not functioning.

As far as God is concerned, there is only one penalty of sin and it is death (Ezekiel 18:20) and the death we are talking about is separation from God. As they say, " life without Christ is crisis "* so when a person is living without Christ, he is a walking dead person.

Examples of sin includes; idolatry, greed, gluttony complaining,fornication,lovers of material things,covetousness etc.

EFFECTS OF SIN

• It separates us from God.

• Sin brings death (ROM 6:23)

• Sin brings punishment ( Jonah 1)

SIN is Satan's Identification Number which he uses to lure people to himself and he recognizes his own people that are under him. We need to first deal with sin before we can come to God for forgiveness. So if you want to enjoy the long life that God has promised His children, you must keep a safe distance from sin. Every act of sin you wilfully engage in exposes you to death.
To stay away from sin,you must;

• Born again
• Carry on the cross of Jesus Christ
• Plead for mercy always
• Abstain from whatever may bring sin
• Allow the spirit of God in you
• Meditate and study the word of God

Jesus said, " come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden,and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you,and learn of me,for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your soul." (Matthew 11:28-29)
