Security is becoming a growing concern in the entire crypto space. Scammers have taken their mode of operation to the next level, making it difficult for users to discern between the real and fake.

To set records straight, the level of security obtained on Blocto as a platform is second to none, as top-level security similar to what is obtained in Banks and top centralized crypto exchanges are deployed on Blocto. Therefore, general security is not something to be worried about. The major concern is about the personal security of each user.

To protect your digital assets and stay free from a scam, there are few things to watch out for, to be on the safer side;

Phishing websites
Some websites have been set up to look exactly like the original, but they are fake and deadly. These websites aim to extract user's information and use them for transactions, looting any available funds and leaving the owner helpless and wretched. Therefore, if there is no small 'lock icon' indicating security near the URL bar and no "HTTPS" in the site address, be extra careful.

Even if the website looks so identical to the one you intend to visit, you could be directed to another platform for further details. For instance, if you click on a link that looks like the original site, attackers could create a fake URL with a 'zero' in it instead of a letter ‘o’. That platform will not take you to your desired platform but the one in which your credentials could be stolen. To avoid this kind of situation, ensure that you carefully type the exact URL into your browser and double-check it, instead of using the search engine to check out the website.

When visiting the Blocto website, ensure that https://blocto.portto.io is correctly typed. Do not forget to check for the letter 'S' after 'HTTP' and ensure that letter 'o' is not replaced with 'zero' on the displayed website.

Fake mobile Apps
The creation of fake mobile applications is another way through which scammers exploit their victims. Sometimes they make the fake application available for download on their phishing website or even on Google Play and Apple App Store. Though when discovered, stakeholders quickly remove such apps from their platforms, but before this is done, many unsuspecting users might have downloaded the fake application, thereby exposing themselves to attacks.

The rule of the thumb here is to be careful when downloading applications. Ensure that you are on the right platform before attempting to download the app.

Also, look out for deliberate misspellings in the name of the app. If you suspect that the branding looks inauthentic with some imperfect colorings or an incorrect logo, it is time to call it a quit.

The best way to download Blocto App is to go through the website https://blocto.portto.io instead of just searching for 'Blocto' on Google play or the Apple store. By doing so, you will be saving yourself from downloading a fake app.

Scamming Emails
Some scammers specialize in harvesting user's email addresses from different platforms. They send email content with juicy offers to lure users and scam them or direct them towards clicking on phishing links to harvest their personal information.

For instance, if you receive an email that you have won some BLT tokens and all you have to do is to click on a link to claim your reward, you need to be cautious and completely ignore it. It would also be good to verify through official platforms if such an offer is true.

You may also get emails that notify you that something is wrong with your account which requires you to follow a link to fix the problem. The link will redirect you to a fake website that is similar to the original one and will prompt you to log in to steal your credentials.

Sometimes the email might look exactly like the ones you have been receiving officially, ensure to check if the logo and branding are the same as the ones you have been receiving initially.

Do due diligence to verify that an email address is legitimate and official and generally avoid clicking on links embedded in a message to get to a website. As a matter of principle, avoid the bait of taking any offer that sounds too good to be true.

Fake social media handles
It is no longer news that users get random messages from people claiming to be group admin or project officials.

This is very common on Telegram groups where scammers are lurking around in official groups looking for unsuspecting users to defraud.
Usually, when users report any problem in the group, the scammer will then reach out to the user privately, trying to impersonate customer support or any of the team members. They will request users to share their personal information and thereby scam them.

Be sure of the fact that no Blocto Official or group administrator will initiate a private message to you and Blocto Official will never ask for your password. So, if anyone reaches out to you claiming to be an official who wants to help you, be quick enough to report and expose such a person on the official Telegram group.
