This first generation of the blockchain technology also has a very secure transaction to its advantage which enables transfer of funds. It also stores files on a permanent base and in a decentralized manner, which means no single file is stored in a single location, rather files are split in parts and stored in different locations. This first generation operates on the principle of proof of work (POW); It means for any system to mine, that is, confirm a transaction, some calculations which result must be equal with that one on the network per second which requires specific integrated circuits and exhaust lot of power. Another demerit of the first generation blockchain is that the speed of transaction is slow and confirmation of transaction takes than other newer generations.

Blockchain 2.0 The Second Generation
The second generation of the blockchain was fronted by Ethereum network which uses smart contracts in its operations with more improvement on the proof of work. The smart contracts are contracts which are self-executing and remove the need for any intermediary while two parties interact directly. The advantage of this second generation blockchain is that it allows other projects to be built on it on the blockchain through the use of the smart contracts and the transactions process is faster than the first generation with reduced costs of transaction. It takes about 15 seconds for a transaction and processes up to 30 transactions per second.
The disadvantage is that the applications built on the ethereum blockchain cannot work in real time because of the speed of the processing and there is need for blockchain that has more capacity to process more transactions at the same time with improved speed because of the rapid increase in the rate of adoption of the blockchain technology all around the world.

Blockchain 3.0 The Third Generation

The third generation of blockchain technology is fronted by EOS Which came up with reduced power consumption in mining new coins, instead of proof of work, the third generation uses Proof of Stake (PoS) which operations of the algorithm requires that for any transaction, that is, creation of new coins to take place, there must be voting in the system to avoid an overrun. Trust scores are allotted to the systems through the voting so that hacking could easily be avoided. The EOS which is the third generation of blockchain offers low cost of transaction and faster speed than any of the existing blockchain. EOS confirms transaction for about 5 seconds and processes 1,000 of transactions per second.
The disadvantage of the EOS is that is not totally decentralized as its operations requires voting within the system which is could be a setback for the blockchain technology.
The overall disadvantage of the all the blockchain networks described is that they cannot interact together as each exist as a separate entity and entirely different from another.
