Another cheery dose of sunshine and rainbows.
Where does all this jubilant optimism even come from?

By The Sword

I haven’t been at your side for long.
One in a million, not special at all.
So I wonder why, of all the other ones before,
Why have I been chosen now?

Taking me in hand, you lift me up to meet your gaze.
You tremble while caressing me with every quiver, every quake.
Approving of my figure, content with all you hold,
You guide me to your chamber and behind, you lock the bolt.

In this heavy silence, adjusting to the dark,
I see a distant flicker of light from afar.
I stare into the glow and within the light, I see you.
Tears roll down your battle scars and tally count tattoos.

If I could speak, I’d ask of you to sleep another night.
Stay your hand and lay me down to wait for morning light.
But I’ve never had a voice and perhaps it’s for the best.
I was made for just this purpose and should ask for nothing less.

The glow is swallowed whole and all I hear is breath.
The scent is of your shame and all I taste is of regret.
The world around me trembles and soon is torn away.
In a flash of flame I’m cast towards my final resting place.

I sail into your open mouth and skim across your tongue.
The world has slowed around us. The dance has just begun.
Your mind and all who live there welcome me by name.
They’re not surprised to see me. They're glad I finally came.
To free them of their torment, to cast their cage asunder,
And shake to dust their horrid house in a flash of light and thunder.

More American soldiers die by suicide than in combat.

Very deep! Inspirational message

Thanks. Ron Paul inspired this one when he tweeted about Chris Kyle's death a few years ago. Started thinking about it again now that we're working on a movie that revolves around a website for live-streaming suicides.

This poem definitely expresses a dark mood, and does it well through its imagery and pacing. But what I really like is the title, because the words "live" and "die" hang there and resonate in their absence.

I'll be honest. I'm not usually moved by poetry that often. You have a gift @piedpiper. Not only did you move me enough to reread multiple times, but touching on suicide has a soft spot for due to my own struggles and lives taken too soon. I'm not sure if this may be partly inspired by the loss of your sister, although a different situation completely, or if this was inspired by a friend who you lost to suicide from the military.

Either way you touched me with this poem and I'm glad you were able to share with all. There is more and more awareness of suicide by soldiers in articles and documentaries that I have seen, but I'm sure many soldiers are haunted by what they have seen and feel unable to cope with these feelings and turn to drugs or alcohol to numb these horrors.

Maybe you can link to a good website that helps those with suicidal tendencies and make another post and donate to a charity you feel encompasses your wish to help if that is something you are passionate about.

You make great posts, even though some are hard to digest and are not "puppies and rainbows" Life is full of heartache and you captured it in a beautiful perspective of a heartbreaking issue.

I don't normally get emotional from poetry.
This was written as a page from my life.
Beautiful, haunting. Best words I can find, are simply to say that words fail me.

Listen, I know this probably isn't the place for it. But i remembered awhile ago you did a bang up job on the fermi paradox.
I'm trying to get all the science geeks onto a theory I've got about the origins of the universe. I thought you might like to take a look.

Thank you for sharing this material, I like what you posted. Thank you so much

It's true. Only 3-4% of Americans join the military. I suffer my own "operational" ptsd, from having my leadership exposed to such horrific things overseas...I have saved two of my companions from the edge. And each of them had saved two. Together, we kept each other together. And good things happened, in the end. (moment of silence for all who were lost this way)
