Motto

Duszą Narodu polskiego jest pielgrzymstwo polskie. A każdy Polak w pielgrzymstwie nienazywa się tułaczem, bo tułacz jest człowiek błądzący bez celu. Ani wygnańcem, bo wygnańcem jest człowiek wygnany wyrokiem urzędu, a Polaka niewygnał urząd jego. Polak w pielgrzymstwie niema jeszcze imienia swego, ale będzie mu to imie potém nadane, jako i wyznawcom Chrystusa imie ich potém nadane było. A tymczasem Polak nazywa się pielgrzymem, iż uczynił ślub wędrówki do ziemi świętej, Ojczyzny wolnej, ślubował wędrować póty aż ją znajdzie.

The soul of the Polish nation is, the Polish pilgrimage. And no Pole, in his pilgrimage, is called a vagrant; because, a vagrant is a man that wanders about without having any object in view. Nor is he rightly called an exile; because, he only is called an exile who is expelled his country by the decree of a tribunal; but no tribunal of his country has expelled any Pole. The Pole, in his pilgrimage, is not yet called by his proper name; but the time will come, when he shall obtain that name; like the disciples of Christ, whose name was given them in due time. In the mean while, the Pole passes under the denomination of a pilgrim; because he made a vow of wandering to the Holy Land – to his free father land; and he has made this vow, to wander until he shall have redeemed his land.
