So, we had the big domain event NamesCon last week in Las Vegas. They always do a live domain auction at this event and as there is an attendance of many wealthy domain investors the prices often go high and we also see some really great domains sell. This of course skews our sales data a bit this week, but it's fun to see how many of the top domain sales for this week came from the NamesCon auction.

These top 20 sales have a combined total of $2,162,169 dollars making the average sale price $108,108 dollars. Clearly these numbers have been pushed way up due to NamesCon.

Domains with History

Number 1 on the list (ol.com) has a recorded sales history. It previously sold for $150,000 USD on April 25th, 2007 at Moniker. That makes this last weeks sale a massive gain of $750,000 dollars in about 12 years!

Number 13 (abdul.com) has a sales history. The domain sold for $6,899 USD on December 1st, 2018 at NameJet. This is a gain of $6,101 dollars in less than 2 months!

Number 17 (smartdrugs.com) has a sales history. The domain sold for $4,000 USD on January 23rd, 2009 at Afternic. This is a gain of $5,500 dollars in 10 years.

Finally, number 20 (selfiesticks.com) has a sales history. This domain previously sold for $29,100 USD on January 23rd, 2015 at NameJet. That's a loss $20,900 over 4 years. This domain has been at Namejet auctions off and on for awhile now and I don't think this is the last time it's going to change hands.

About the Names

There's a lot to like on this list and the prices suggest that. I think it would be easier to point out the domains that I don't like! So, let's try that for a change. I don't like number 7 on the list (pay21.com). I'm just not a big fan of domains that combine words and numerics. I also don't like number 13 (abdul.com) although it's a name so I can see it's got some value. Finally, I do not like isohunt.to and I'm also not a fan of selfiesticks.com. To me selfiesticks.com is one of those domains that really only had value when selfiesticks first became a new and popular thing. It's going to continue to go down from there. That's the way product or trends likes this work. They don't really grow in value, they start at their peak and always go down from there. Remember covfefe.com?
