ASUU Vs The Federal Government - Students In Nigeria Are In a Difficult Situation

in CampusConnect2 years ago

Many Nigerian students must be furious right now due to the high level of stagnation in our educational industry.

Many of the students have had difficult times over the past few years. Covid19 has already contributed to destabilizing our educational system for almost a full year. a year without engaging in any academic work.

Many students in Nigeria breathed a sigh of relief when the lockdown was lifted, but they were unaware that ASUU and our Federal government had more sinister plans in store for them. Undoubtedly doing more harm than anyone can fathom is the ongoing industrial action that has affected our educational sector.

This is not about missing a few weeks or months. This is about missed possibilities, and Nigerian students are suffering as a result of the conflict between the federal government and ASUU. These students are frustrated, and many of them have already spent 6 years in a degree that was supposed to last 4 years.

It's unusual to find a setting where students are treated as though they're disposable. So much for being 'future leaders.' Students in Nigeria!

Every strike action typically results in a significant gap between what students should know and what they actually know by the time it is over. Their lack of participation usually leaves them ignorant of all the topics on their course syllabus that they missed. It's not surprising, as they say, that we produce graduates who are only halfway competent.

Let's discuss the most recent events about the striking situation in Nigeria.

The current strike action began on February 14, 2020, as a three-week warning strike. A three-week warning strike turned into a three-month strike. Every deadline is frequently followed by a tea meeting between ASUU officials and the federal government, which results in an extension of the strike.

The most recent extension occurred a few days ago, a little while after their normal tea meeting. The strike continues indefinitely! Lol.

Can you really believe that?

Don't you think it's about time this ongoing strike action came to an end?

Whatever the situation, I think both sides can find common ground and honestly resolve this conflict. I'm close to going insane because of the absence of reason and common sense in this never-ending conflict.

I don't see why ASUU would have allowed this entire situation to continue for almost a year. It is a notion that is a monstrosity. a concept that was created only out of greed, conceit, and a ruthless pursuit of wealth.

These individuals must act properly immediately.

Suggestions For Our Students

Get occupied!

That's all there is to it. Simply get busy and occupied. Make good use of this "spare time." You are already aware of the ongoing strike problems in our educational sector. Even the labor market is not to be taken lightly. Therefore, now is the ideal moment to begin looking at options outside of what you are currently studying at university.

When in Rome, they say, but we are not in Rome. We are in Nigeria. And one of the simplest ways to be frustrated by poverty in Nigeria is to pin all of your hopes on your degree.

Sincerely looking forward to your opinions on the ASUU strike situation. What do you think, in addition, about the way our government has responded to this strike?
