I wanna hang out with my cross country internet friends too.
I'm seeing a lot of people headed/heading to Reno, and just hosted a couple of people driving there at my house last night. I'm jealous and wanted to be there. What I can give you, though... is some advice.
Before convention starts, stop at one of the closest watering holes, maybe even the one in the hotel. Look around, and you'll see someone from the internet that you just know is gonna be on the other side of things from you. I can not stress this enough... buy them a drink and strike up a conversation. You'll be glad you did. (Exceptions may apply)
Remember that the "Reno reset" isn't really as much about opposing political philosophies as it is about messaging what's essentially the same message. But don't fall into false dichotomies over it... it's possible to have bold messaging and be kind simultaneously. It's possible to be pragmatic and provocative if you're selective. Seen in that light, push for preferences but don't sweat it too much.
You may find yourself in front of a mic. You probably stood in line for a bit waiting to be recognized by the chair. There was something you really wanted to say about the matter at hand, but let's face it... somebody probably already made an argument for the side you were on already. Consider instead of making your case, saying the magic words “call the question”. If you're planning to say those three beautiful words before going up there, look around. I sent a red hat with the word “dilatory” on it... ask whoever is wearing it to borrow it while you make your motion.
