The beak is the first place to feed the digestive system. Chickens do not have teeth so the first feed into the digestive system by being pecked through the beak and immediately swallowed without chewing first. The tongue on the pointy cock helps to encourage the food of the throat. The salivary glands are produced about 7-30 ml per day which will help smooth and ease the feed into the esophagus
