Chelsea failed to finish the big four this season.
Chelsea again experienced a decrease in achievements in the Premier League after the champions. The lack of a leader and strong character in the team is in the spotlight.
Chelsea ended the season in fifth Premier League position, 30 points behind champions Manchester City. The Blues are also 11 points behind from Manchester United who finished runners-up, then 7 points from Tottenham Hotspur (third position), and five points from Liverpool (4th position).
Whereas in previous seasons, Chelsea appear as champions. They finished top with 93 points, resulting from 30 wins and three equal. While this season, West London's boys only picked up 21 wins and seven equaled in 38 weeks.
This decrease is quite similar to what happens in the 2015/2016 season. Chelsea are still handled Jose Mourinho when it finished in 10th position right after the champions. Mourinho was dumped and replaced Antonio Conte.
