[CO] Commissioned couple portrait
I made this uniquely styled portrait for a couple to remind them of their vacation at Dubai. This is my last entry to the ongoing "black and white drawing contest" by artisteem.
I used a tiled framing technique inspired by the client's request for the very first time, I definitely want to do more of it now. I will like to share some progress shots of the process from the inception to the framing.
The Process
I started with the sketch as usual, already marking out the sizes of the eventual tiles to be. Then the shading started...I worked on the faces first and left out the background.
I started working on the background with a lot of charcoal, pencil and powder...
I tried my best to add the effect of light from the tower in the background to round off the drawing
I cut out the needed area from the paper...
Then separated it into tiles for individual framing...
The individual tiles were then laminated on accurately cut plywood boards to wrap it up!
Just a late night shot with the piece...
Summary
Status: commissioned (2018)
Size: 25 x 30 inches
Medium: graphite and charcoal
Time: 60+ hours
