So today, am gona share an acrylic painting i made few months ago for my final year in school.

I think its the biggest work i have attempted so far and it took approximately a week for its completion, the whole procese was fun and abit tiring. So here is the bottom-line:-

Acrylic Paint is a kind of paint used on canvas and papers and it dries so fast. Another attribute that is common with acrylic paint is that after it dries, it cannot be used again. But if one can manipulate it, the outcome is always so fantastic.

Steps on how i Achieved this Painting

  • Get your canvas ready: You can manually make your own canvas, measured to a size you want or you can buy a ready-made one. Making it will help you get a nice and neatly stretched surface.

  • Mixing of colours: This is one of the most important aspect of the whole work. It is recommended to use a palette knife for your mixture. I was taught in school that the process of mixing colours is called cooking. These were my colours after mixture.

  • Sketching: This is another important step which must be done penstakingly. Am not a good imaginative artist, so i use references alot. But eitherways, a proper sketch with correct proportions and forms must be done, if not the final painting will look weird

  • Painting: This is the main aspect of the work. The process of stroking the brush across the canvas with paint. Laying of colours must also follow the law of Tonal gradation (this is the sequence of gradual flow of tones from the darkest part to the lightest part of the work and vice versa). Observe and follow the shades properly, keep the dark areas dark (paint with a dull colour or with a darker colour) and as you paint towards the lighter areas, try lighter colours.

  • Take a nap: After painting for a long time, take a rest. Walk away from the work, inhale some fresh air, take a stroll come and look at the art piece again. If you like invite a friend to ask them what they think about the work. Any incredible art piece is a product of a continuous renewed strength and inspiration. The process involved in creating an art work consumes strength, having to stay glued to a particular spot for a long time could be tiring. So consistent rest at intervals is advisable except you dont want to.

  • Completion of Painting: This painting took me aprroximately one week for its completion. I faced lots of challenges during the painting, but then nothing good comes easily right?
I completed the work and even exhibited it during my final year exhibition in school
