A MEETING OF MINDS: With Explorer Dr. Lawrence Blair & Dj Harvey the Music Legend - 'PulpWorx Behind the Scenes'

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steem Community! As the Producer of a seminar series, we were lucky to have an intimate sitting over tea with Dr. Lawrence Blair and the legend performer himself, Dj Harvey. I was blessed to be in the presence of such esteemed individuals from the fields of exploration, music, anthropology, mysticism and insights of technology. Please read on for a summary of what was an eventful day.

Dr. Lawrence Blair is well known for his Emmy Award nominated series of Indonesia, The Ring of Fire which was funded by Ringo Starr of The Beatles. It was an incredible odyssey into the uncharted regions of Indonesia spanning over 3 decades. Truly an exploration masterpiece and Dr. Blair deserves his rightful place in the annals of history as one of the greatest among our last remaining explorers of yesteryear.

Dj Harvey happened to be in Bali 2 weeks ago, as the headliner for the Weekender launch series for VICE Indonesia at the world renowned PotatoHead Beach Club. This will be the venue of our very own BudoCon MindLab seminar talk with Dr. Blair later this year on September 17.

Dan M - the Creative Director of PotatoHead - had the ingenious idea of inviting both scholars to a casual sitting over tea. Of course I agreed in excitement. Phone calls were made and it was confirmed. Being in the presence of Englishmen, I can assure you the discussions that took place at the table was of absolute eloquence, a damn fine delivery of english grammar and wit. It resonated a scene of DowntTown Abbey, but filmed in a science laboratory at WestWorld.

At first, I was hoping to record the talk, as promised in an earlier post here on Steemit. However, due to a rational request from Harvey, he felt more comfortable talking freely if nothing was recorded. I agreed without hesitation and further insisted my good friend Anton Ivanov - the photographer @beliyrukin - would also be taking pictures from a distance to keep the moment casual.

The gathering began with Dan introducing me to Harvey at the boutique lobby of Katamama Hotel. You know in the movies, when a person meets a stranger and expects them to be taller but wasn't? Well Harvey is the contrary. He's a towering man at about 6'1ft and he surfed pretty much every day during his entire 3 week stay last month. Within the first 5 minutes, I gathered this gentleman to be a man of varied unique experiences through life and to be quite Stoic.

In the brief moment waiting for Dr. Blair to arrive, we discussed like minded topics, to which he spoke of events and names I'd never heard of before; even though I was well read on the particular topic at hand. You see, I have an intense fascination of the connections between the occult and mysticism to high society and gifted scientists. The recent discovery of artifacts from Ancient Egypt and the Nazi era found in Argentina, further muses my interests. Oh, woe is me.

One of these topics was regarding a rocket engineer named Jack Parsons. The name seemed to ring a bell but I wasn't familiar with it, until Harvey mentioned Jack was a disciple of Aleister Crowley. The works and deeds of Crowley I knew a bit about, having read books on the Church of Thelema before and also from the badass Ozzy Osbourne track when I was a kid, Mr. Crowley. I was startled to learn Jack Parsons was a high ranking member, due to the fact that he also happened to be respected scientist of the space program before it became NASA. Yes, along with the founder ex-Nazi rocket scientist Wernher von Braun.

Harvey then asked me, Why did I create this seminar platform? I smiled, looked at him and tried best to answer,

"For this moment. Right now with you and Dr. Blair. In a world of fake news, selfies and the loss of spirituality consumed by ego, I seek clarity on behalf of the masses. Rather than read bogus reports on the interwebs, why not invite the scholars of our time, to just sit and talk. No obstructions."

He returned a smile and asked if he might be a right fit for one of the Seminars? I was humbly surprised. I mean, the thought had come to mind the last few days... but I was a bit hesitant seeing as we'd just been introduced. I replied a resounding Yes, that it would be a just wonderful if he'd be a guest in the future. And with this kind gesture of good faith between us, Dr. Lawrence Blair entered the lobby.

He is a man of quite the stature himself, same height as Harvey sporting a well recognized eye-patch. I must say, quite a fitting ensemble for an Explorer, Anthropologist & Mystic researcher. I introduced Dr. Blair to Harvey and we went ahead to our table that PotatoHead management had prepared.

After a brief warming period of mostly Dr. Blair and Harvey getting to know each other a bit better and talking about the Ring of Fire and how it had influenced an entire generation to come and explore Indonesia - including Dan - we got into some real discussions, covering a range of engaging topics.

It started with the tragic, yet somewhat morbidly humorous tale of how Michael Rockefeller was eaten by Cannibals in 1961. Lawrence had actually visited the very same tribe of cannibals in the Asmat region, and was told the tale first hand by a village elder. Pretty sure the elder had indigestion after the meal. Bada-Bing!

Another interesting topic discussed was Cymatic resonance with focused laser beams on crystals. Lawrence had done extensive research in England, on behalf of a university. The talk led to how with today's current technology, similar research was implemented in tech for hospital equipment in the medicinal industry. A fine example, this broken arm is healed faster in a new type of 3D printed cast, which resonates a frequency of sound throughout the cast itself. A sound of healing is vibed into the bone structure.

Would the sound waves resemble the frequency of a cat purring? I wonder...

I hadn't noticed the time fly, as being immersed in such an interesting talk you tend to forget things going on around you. Harvey began to tell a story about what he called Edible Intelligence. He was describing a pill that he witnessed during an invitation to a respectful tech company. While he was in the boardroom with the owners, they offered him a pill. Harvey explained how these corporate managers would ingest this pill for a boost of intelligence. As in, it makes you smarter. Not permanently, but for a few hours you were sharper than usual. A more cognitive thought process. When I asked if he had taken the pill, he smirked and declined to give a direct answer. To be honest, he doesn't need the pill.

What was supposed to be an afternoon tea gathering of casual discussions, manifested into a meeting of minds - Dr Blair and Dj Harvey of course - that escalated into tales of exploration, the evolution of sci-fi now being sci-fact and how most of the fictional stories of yesteryear, the fantasies of technology which were once considered the impossible, are now very much real.

We went on and on about the state of current affairs on a global scale, and how it affects the youth of today. In particular, the confused - yet talented - group of youngsters who have proclaimed their own title, the Millenials.

After 3 hours of constructive, solid and deep discussions it was time to gather our thoughts back into, *sigh... daily routine and get on with the program called life. We had a brief moment of pictures - fanboy here - a few last laughs and hugs all around. Lawrence went on his way and Harvey continued to a press conference photo shoot for his gig later in the week.

I attended the VICE party and boogied away under the stars to the chunes of a Legend Dj, of whom I have an entirely new admiration for. The two men I met earlier in the week, will make a lasting impression on me. Indeed, it was an interesting afternoon.
