Sowing Heirloom and Organic Seeds during UK Lockdown - Beans, Courgettes, Squashes and Pumpkins

in #gardening5 years ago (edited)

I need to keep busy throughout everything that is going on and seeing that allotments are allowed I have been busy today.

This morning I created plant pots of loo roll centres, after all, everyone hoarded them over here! There should be in abundance for any other UK Gardners who would like to make their own.

I have been holding onto these for a few weeks now, waiting for when I needed them.

I was planning on going to the allotment today but didn't fancy it. So I will go down tomorrow I think Weather depending. Unfortunately, all the nice weather came in the week but I think the fact the weather is rubbish this weekend has probably benefitted us with regards to the Covid19 outbreak.

I am hoping to get as many seeds in as I can incase a longer and severe lockdown occurs and I won't be allowed to the allotment for a few weeks.

Last week I planted Chard, Parsnips, Carrots, and Turnips direct into the ground.

Today indoors I have sown 2 varieties of squash, Winter and Crook Neck, 2 Varieties of Courgette one organic and other non. It will be interesting to see the difference between the two courgettes when it comes to taste.

I kept onto the seeds out of my Pumpkin from Halloween and sowed these. I read online that each Pumpkin Vine can grow around 5 Pumpkins. So come October I should have enough to eat with and decorate.

I also sowed some Tomato seeds as well today. Hopefully these will come off as the seeds were very old. I am thinking of keeping the tomato plants in the back Garden as well this year.

I've been planting and sowing today as well.

I had planted some broad beans last well, but the mice ate every single one of them, so I had to do them again today. Luckily I only used half the packet first time round. Keeping them indoors this time!

Naughty mice! I have been down today and planted the beans under cover wasn't as warm today at all! Last weekend was lovely
