If you click on your portrait your drop down menu opens up. Click on wallet. In the wallet you will see STEEM. Click on STEEM and click buy. This will take you to BlockTrades. On BlockTrades type in your Steemit name and it will verify it and produce an address which you can use to exchange Bitcoin etc. to STEEM. I could be completely wrong to as I am new to Steemit as well.
