Resource Integration Center and Hatia Welfare Association jointly organized a free eye camp on Thursday morning at 9 am for socio-economic development of senior citizens at the grassroots level in Chaumuhani High School premises. Free cataract surgery and power glasses along with eye examination are provided to the patients attending the day-long eye camp. A check of Tk 1.26 lakh has been distributed among the beneficiaries of the Sufal project in Nijhumdwip. Member of Parliament and President of Upazila Awami League Alhaj Mohammad Ali officially inaugurated this distribution of checks at Nizhumdwip Namar market on Friday (February 23) morning.
Former Member of Parliament Ayesha Ferdaus, Upazila Vice Chairman Kefayet Ulya, Upazila Executive Officer Suraiya Akter Lucky, Hatia Thana Officer Insarge Jisan Ahmed, M Ali Corporation Proprietor Ashiq Ali Ami, Nijhumdwip UP Chairman Dinaz were present in the check distribution ceremony presided over by Divisional Forest Officer Abu Yusuf. The government is implementing a scheme called “Sustainable Forests and Livelihoods” (Sufal) to reduce the dependence of people living near forests on forests. 29 Village Conservation Forums have been formed in Hatia under this project. Its membership is 2 thousand. Among them there are 11 forums in Nijhumdwip. Today, 500 members of these 11 forums of Nijhumdwip were given a check of 25 thousand 200 rupees and 1 crore 26 lakh rupees.

In the president's speech, Divisional Forest Officer Abu Yusuf said that this money is given as a livelihood development fund to the beneficiaries. Which every forum will protect. For which the government will not have to pay any interest or dividend. Forum members will use this money to improve their livelihood. After the specified time they will return this money to the forum. Later any other member will get the opportunity to use this money according to certain rules.

2000 members of 29 forums of the tool will get this facility. People from poor families living near the forest are members of this forum. These checks have already been distributed to various unions. In the first and second phase, each member will get 42 thousand taka. With this money, they will get an opportunity to create alternative employment by using it in poultry rearing, cattle rearing and fish farming. They have already been trained in each of their respective professions.
In the speech of the chief guest, Member of Parliament Muhammad Ali said, people enter the forest due to poverty and engage in such activities, including cutting trees and damaging the forest. The Forest Department is implementing this project to create alternative employment for them. Which will play a leading role in forest protection. At the same time, it will help in improving the quality of life of people.
