My Town in Ten Pictures by @queensleey
Hello Beautiful Souls in this great platform. I welcome you to my blog this evening. I am sure your day was pretty well.
This my post is very special to me. Wonder why?
I am on a little holidays with my children in my State of origin - Anambra State. I grew up in Onitsha and majority of my childhood and training were there and its environment.
I was so happy coming to spend some time here with my elder sister and family.
This post is special to me because I want to show you some important places that had to do with my growing up. Relax while I take you on a tour of places in Onitsha. Let's go!!!
I choose to start this post with the compound where I grew up. This is 16 Immanuel Church Street, Inland Town Onitsha. The very place I lived with my foster parents. We packed in here as much as I could remember in 1995. I guess we left there when I was in SS1, in 1999/2000. Our Landlord's name was Chief N.I. Egbunike which explains the cap on top of the building. He's long dead and I was surprised to see the poster of his brother when I visited...he wàs a Deputy Inspector General of Police.
This is Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. My alma-mater. This is where I attended my Secondary School. From J.S.S1 - S.S.3. I had so much fun in this school. I had written some of my experiences in this post. This school was established in 1857. When I came in, I found out that so many things has really changed, in fact, there was a great renovation and I was happy to see them. I had wonderful memories of my school years. We had good, laboratories then - chemistry, physics, biology. Functional kitchen for food and nutrition, home management, catering students. Also a kiosk. I was happy to see that all of these places are still good and in tact.
This is MR BIGS. One of the oldest fast food place in the Town. I could remember when this fast food place was newly opened. I was in my J.S.S2, 1998 or there about. It became the best that everyone wanted to visit... how old it is now. For it to still be standing after more than 20years, it's worth an accolade you know. Old but still there at Ogbo mmanu. It's at a 3 road junction.. Upper New Market road, New market and Old market road.
This is Anambra State General Hospital, Onitsha. One of the oldest and best hospitals in Onitsha as long as I can remember. It's was a cancer center too. This hospital has different sections - laboratory, ultrasound, dental, dialysis, NHIS, ante-natal, etc. The doctors here are very good at what they do. It's still new...I guess it was renovated recently which explains the newness. It's located at Awka Road, close to GRA, Onitsha.
This is Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Inland Town Onitsha.
Another beautiful worship center in Onitsha. Pope John Paul visited this Church in 1982. The Catholics worshippers of this center adore this place so much. Infact, it's one of the largest church in Onitsha and very big. Has 3 buildings for worship... 1st, 2nd and 3rd masses, a school inside it,(St Mary's nursery and primary School), a place for seminarians, a vestry meeting center, etc. You will find very old worshippers in this center.

This is Total Fuel Station. Another old place I used to go then. My cousin's husband used to work here. He was their manager then that we were young. I remember how we used to get free gallon of kerosene every month. I've forgotten his name and don't know where they are now. This fuel station happens to be one of the oldest station I know, yet still working. It's located along Awka Road.
This is Pacific Complex. It's a multi purpose Complex but mostly occupied by clothe stores owners. This complex stood out from all others when it was newly built. Why I included it is because our family doctor's wife owned a shop here in those days. It's unfortunate it's now old even when it's still occupying many shops. It is located along Awka Road, by GRA. I noticed ShopRite has been built very close to the complex...I wasn't shocked because it's a good site.
This is St. Charles College Onitsha. This is a secondary School manged by the Catholic Church. It's located along Awka Road. Very close to st. Mary's Catholic Church. They also run a special science school there too. That Special Science School starts from S.S.1-S.S.3 while the normal school from J.S.1- S.S.3. The school is also has boarding and day Students. St. Charles is well known for their students uniqueness in everything.
Then, it was believed that students in this school are very intelligent. One of my foster brothers attended this school.
This is All Saints Primary School, Onitsha where my younger foster sister attended her Nursery and Primary education. It is very far from our residencial area and my own school, yet I walk to take her to school before going for mine. Funny enough, they are in opposite direction. Those days of struggle; many times, I won't be given transport fare still I will go to school early. It's because I leave very early. This school is managed by All Saints (Anglican Communion). I very good school till date...still standing tall, along Awka Road. Shares a fence with General Hospital.

We are here, at the end of the pictures. And we have Island Building here. I decided to include this because this building houses Island Supermarket where my foster mum do shop especially Salad things. She doesn't buy said things in the market but fro that supermarket...I don't know why. The building is like a complex too where you can find so many shops. It is just along the road. On a round about...D.M.G.S., All Saints Cathedral, etc. Its location is at a vintage point and attracts many customers because their goods are good and authentic.
These are great memories for me. I believe my growing up was a wonderful time of training for me. I hope I haven't bore you too much with my childhood memories...I believe you have your own awesome experiences. Please, do well to contribute yours in the comment section. Thanks for reading.

I really enjoyed the tour with you and all pictures were clear. Mr Biggs is one of the the first fast foods that came and had branches at most major cities in the country, glad to know that it's still operating in Onitsha unlike here in my city.
Smiles, same here oooo
I haven't really been hearing of Mr Biggs here in uyo. It has rather been replaced with pepperoni, crunchies, dechoice, Inels etc
Thanks dear. I was also shocked that Mr Bigs is still good and functional. That's a great credit to the management and the partner I guess. I'm glad to hear from you.

Oh, am really sorry to forget such an important part. Thanks for reminding me and I promise not to forget next time. Thanks for your contribution.
Wow... you really kept history..😀 right from where you resided at your tender age and old times m schools too. They're still well intact without any form of destruction, thank God for your town as for me mine are good in crisis, they've destroyed so many places in my town but we're hoping for a peaceful environment some day.
That's really bad...I sympathize with you dear @prolee. History is and should remain a very important part of our lives I tell you. It makes me not to forget where am coming from and what God has helped me achieve. It's very important to me. Thanks for stopping by.
