What I Believed versus The Real Picture. by queenleey
Hello my beautiful People. I know you guys are doing great. I'm glad to be her again. I want to say a big 'thank you' to @steem4Nigeria for organizing this contest. I wish to participate in it and that's why I'm here.
The contest's topic is an interesting on that everyone will like to participate in... What I believed versus the real picture. I said so because there are a million things we believed when we were growing up as children that as we became adults and more enlightened, you came to know and see the real picture. We saw how weird they were though we held it so tight when they were told us. Relax and let me tell you some weird things that I was made to believe.
- Movement of Spirits in Sand Waves:
When we were kids, in primary School, story had it that there are Spirits in the movement of sand wave. A sand wave is that time when there is a forceful movement of breeze that one see sand rolling in the air in a circular form. Actually, when you see it, nothing will make you not to believe because it makes a certain noise, and like a Pilar movement. Before you know it, it will disappear. It's always a heavy force of breeze formed together which carries sand as it move. Many of us have seen it I know. It's called a Sand Wave.
Then, we were meant to believe that if one see it coming, you should run because it's a movement of Spirits. If not you will get a heavy nock on the head which will give you an everlasting headache. Weird, right?
- When a toddler bends down to view through both legs.
I can't stop laughing concerning this belief. You know how toddlers play. We were told that when a toddler bends down to view people by spreading the two legs and looking through, then, the mother will get pregnant soon or is already pregnant.
- Having boil by the eye region is a sign of stinginess.
There's this belief that whenever one has boil by the eye region, the person is a stingy person. I don't know how we were made to believe that. What business has stinginess got to do with boil by the eye?
- Wearing the back of the cloth is a sign of good luck.
I don't know how this works but while growing up even now as an adult, people still believe that when you wear the back of your cloth unknowingly, that it brings good luck and favour.
And so on ....
Well, there's none in particular that's associated with the beliefs just what I hear my family, friends, peers say and some elders make us believe.
Atimes, out of curiosity, one will want to find out if truly what people say are true by committing the offence, just to see if the outcome will be punishable according to the long myths we were meant to believe.
For spirits being in a Sand Wave, one time in my life though a Teenager, I tried to find out if there were Spirits associated by that movement by not running as I saw it, I stood still and the wave passed through me. The only thing I noticed was the capacity of wave and the sand it carries. I tried opening my eyes and the amount of sand that entered into my eyes left my eyes dripping tears that whole day and the pains afterwards.
The, I came to know that there was nothing like Spirits in Sand Waves. It was later in my life as an undergraduate that I know what that is and the name. And causes the force.
Coming to a child bending to view through the leg, I was thinking about that the day I saw my baby do it. Was wondering if that belief is true then I should or I'm pregnant. Nothing happened. And my children, all, at one point or another did that and I didn't see any pregnancy. Hence, my disbelief.
But come to think of it, if that thing is true, then women will be getting pregnant anyhow.
How funny is one believing that a boil by the eye region is a sign of being stingy or not giving things to fellows. Until I had one around my eyes.
It was just a boil please and not associated with anything. It's just like having boil at any part of your body. I came to know it's nothing.
So, is wearing the back of our clothes. It's a silly mistake. As I get older and more exposed, I came to know that Favour can locate anyone once it's his/her time, back cloth or not.
If people should see you wearing your back clot now, you will just be looking silly and insane.
When I found out the truth about all these, I just laughed it out because truly it is weird how we could be convinced about such things that we even not dare to ask further questions.
It's just very funny.
Well, the beliefs didn't really affect me totally but I have come not sure o believe anything I am told or whatever I hear people say. I have learnt to find out the truth first if I must believe...just to convince myself. Or better still, have my own experience in order to have a better story or a first hand information on any story.
But I have come to think that the story behind wearing back of cloth is to reduce the tension that may arise in the person. You know how tensed humans can be in such a situation, I believe the story is to help reduce the tension in the person in order to have a good day until the mistake is corrected.
Again, concerning the sand wave. It may be that the elders are trying to make us avoid that sand from entering our eye because it was really painful the day I experienced it.

Naaaa...!!!! I will never allow my head be used again or be brainwashed by anyone...not at my age, exposure, experience, and enlightenment. The world is now a global image and there's nothing hidden from the internet or people's inquisitive eyes.
I want to invite @chikaeli, @beautybb, @chichieze to participate in the contest.

Nice options and nice solutions. I guess an adult and intelligent one should act according to age and learning from their experiences :)
Yes. Exposure and education will make an individual to think differently. Thanks for your contribution.
In my country Venezuela I have heard some of those things like when the baby do that you said like downward facing dog at yoga, here they say the mother is expecting another baby too!
And having a book in the eye is associated with denying something to a pregnant
So many weird believes!
But is even more interesting how things are similar in different countries
Greetings
