The Flower Dome in the Gardens By The Bay has a ‘Flower Field’. Every couple of months, there will be a seasonal floral display. For this month and into early January, in conjunction with the festive season, the theme for the flower display is Poinsettia Wishes.

Here are some decors and some of the flowers on display. Join me on a tour of the displays.

Torenia fournieri, commonly called as wishbone flower. It’s flowers are trumpet -shaped with partially fused petals. A pair of stamens (pollen producing part of the flower) unites at the anthers (the part of the stamen where pollen is produced) in a shape resembling the wishbone of a chicken, hence its common name.

Here’s a bit of trivia on the origin of the Christmas tree.
The origin of the Christmas tree date back to ancient times when people brought evergreen trees into their homes upon the arrival of the winter solstice to celebrate the return of life at the start of the decline of winter. Legend has it that Martin Luther, a German theologian was the first to decorate a tree with light candles.
