@SurpassingGoogle's Untalented Contest Who Am I: My Entry - The Untalented Black Sheep

Untalented. That's what relatives call me compared to my siblings. I am the second of four and it so happened that I'm the black sheep of the brood.

Unlike my brothers and sister, I didn't grow up with our parents. I was left in the care of my maternal grandparents who for the most part just left me to my own devices. No guidance, no advice, no warmth. Their only duty was to clothe, feed and send me to school. Period.

And they all wonder why I turned out the way I am. 🙄

My older brother is the great achiever. High grades, ROTC platoon leader, scholar; and after graduation, high-paying job, a car, a house.

The sister has good business acumen and owns business here and there so she regularly travels.

Up next is younger bro who's the social butterfly; friend of all and beloved of all.

They all know how to swim and drive a car.

...

Then there's me.

Can't swim, can't drive, can't this, can't that...but that's because nobody taught me how! I did not have the privilege of parental guidance and supervision. I had to learn and do things the hard way.

High school was an entirely new jungle for me and I quickly learned to become a scrappy fighter. It was a Chinese school that "of course" prioritized students of Chinese descent. Both school management and Chinese students discriminated on those who are not like them. I frequently got in fights until one day the chinky ones had enough of the scratch and bite marks I inflicted on them and just left me alone. School life was difficult but I became resourceful, worldly-wise and thick-skinned from the experience.

My time in University was a blur. I just wanted to finish and leave the nest so much that I focused mainly on my studies.

I'm a grown adult now and working from home. Aside from the convenience and eliminating the daily commute, I chose the homebased career since I'm not talented at socializing & not that pretty either with my buckteeth. Almost everytime I meet someone new, when I open my mouth to speak their attention is drawn to my teeth and they just forget whatever I'm saying and I have to repeat myself all over. Working from home, I'm saving myself the trouble of meeting people face to face and getting that reaction. I'd like to preserve my self-esteem and confidence.

The company I work for pays in bitcoin and that's when I learned about cryptocurrency with led me to Steemit. I've been trading in crypto since then in the aspiration of becoming financially secure and finally get to enjoy the things I like.

So Who Am I Really?

pic.jpg

I am every child who wants to become free and independent of an unsupportive family unit.

I am every black sheep that wants to step out of a "better" sibling's shadow and shine in our own unique, unconventional way.

I am every unprivileged and discriminated who has to claw, fight and struggle to be respected and to survive another day.

And most of all, I am a dreamer with a heart full of hope that one day
after all the bitterness and spite in the past,
I'll realize my dream of finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Thank you very much for participating.
i will need to do a full-blown reading over time. i decided to just stop by a bit for now. The turn-out has kept growing (currently around 150 posts that i have to read and counting and support with vote but i submit all entries to some friends as well to support. The experience has been awesome. I will come back for a full blown comment to empower you when i fully read. This is beyond a contest, so there will be a ton of variations to participate in, for fun, community and ultimately to bring about success in every facet, steemit and beyond. The whole endeavor is a curriculum from "school of life", raw down-to-earth stuff, without books involved; stemming from unadulterated love for humans; humans.
If you want to read some of the entries too: visit all the resteems on @steem-untalented
