Hey Now, You're a Rock Star

After discovering the natural beauty of Colorado, I decided another fun hobby to take up might be gold hunting. I've always enjoyed hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities so this fits right in. Who wouldn't love going for an overnight backpacking trip in Colorado and bring back a half ounce of gold?!

OK so maybe getting that half ounce nugget on the first trip might be a bit optimistic, but bringing out a little bit of gold every trip is a reality. In recent years, Colorado has produced over $200,000,000 worth of gold each year. Silver and other precious metals are also known to be produced here.

So now that I've commited to some novice gold prospecting, I decided I needed a few tools. A good rock pick hammer was first on my list. This is the same tool used by Andy in the Shawshank Redemption, a classic movie. Andy uses the tool to escape from prison. How much more symbolic can you get?

I found this vintage Stanley no. 252 Rock pick hammer on ebay for about $20. The wood handle has been greedily soaking in linseed oil. The previous owner had stained the hardwood handle and it was bone dry.

I named this tool "Rock Star". It came after hearing the song "All Star" by Smashmouth again. Just seemed to fit. Anyway thanks for looking at my "new" tool and come back to see the other stuff I bought some time!

I don't know why, but it reminded me of The Shawshank Redemption and the rock hammer that Andy used to slowly chip away at the wall.

DERP! I commented before I read that far. :)
