Evening at Uncle's Shop

Last week my uncle started a small vegetable shop nearby. I could visit the shop for the first time yesterday after the shop opening. Actually, my brother contributed a lot by making banners and other printing materials first and I gave almost zero contribution to shop start. But proudly I am the one who picked the name "Chanu's Fair".

The shop is located in front of Baddegama-Hikkaduwa road. Eventhough the neighborhood is not much populated, the place attracts so many customers as there are no other vegetable shops nearby. Also, the place is very easy to reach. There are some other shops including a mini market, fish shop, and a pastry shop nearby. Hence people are mostly stopping by this area.

Currently, they are selling vegetables, spices, rice, dhal, and also dried fish at a comparatively lower price. Currently, they buy vegetables from a vendor who transports vegetables from Nuwara Eliya. Once every two days the supplier provides fresh veggies.

I also spend a few hours in the shop helping customers. It was little bit fun to collect veggies, helping to scale weight and all. It was the second day of the shop when I was there.

As I noticed people are mostly buying pumpkin and onions. Nowadays pumpkin is an inexpensive solution for all. The location of the shop is close to a paddy field, hence there is a nice breeze in the evening. There are plenty of things to learn to them and also for me regarding this kind of business. We have planned to add more stalls to the shop to give a better service.
