Ratel's photos #256 Forest Birds-198

The song thrush (Turdus philomelos)
Once in the spring, walking in the woods, I heard an incredibly beautiful melancholy song. The song was very loud, but the singer himself was not visible. Unfortunately, the bird was very far away and in a very "uncomfortable" place. I just stopped and enjoyed this song. So this song was good! It was clean, measured, varied.

The next day I again went to that part of the forest in the hope of seeing the singer. And I found him! This singer was a song thrush.
Seeing me, he became frightened and began to fly from tree to tree. I had to stand motionless, and occasionally approach him. In the end we reached the hill. Where he sat on the tree branch, and I climbed the hill. At these moments he sat motionless, probably pretending to be an inanimate object.
But when I stepped back a little, he began to sing his wonderful song.
It's funny. I approached, and he sat silently. I left, and he began to sing again. Probably, he has some kind of "comfort zone", with violation of which, he ceases to sing.

What about the bird itself. Outwardly, it is very similar to The tree pipit. But the size of it certainly is more, after all he is thrush. And he has more spots on his chest. He is migratory, arrives to us in Siberia around the end of April. In the summer, I did not even hear him at all. Apparently his songs are intended only to attract females.
