Bitmain will be engaged in the production of devices for the training of artificial intelligence.
Chinese manufacturer of ASIC-miners Bitmain in January announced the opening of a subsidiary in Switzerland. In the future, the company intends to move all its activities to the North of Europe due to the negative attitude of the Chinese government. Now Bitmain announced another innovation-the manufacturer wants to diversify the activities and produce devices for training artificial intelligence. This writes Bloomberg.
Bitmain Deputy head Jihan Wu said in a conversation with The Agency that neural networks training, as well as mining, requires large computing power.
"It is logical that we chose the production of AI equipment as an alternative to ASIC-miner to increase our revenues. This technology is developing rapidly, and as a Chinese company we must be ready."
The device for the study of artificial intelligence will be called Sophon BM1680 and will be able to reduce the cost of the process several times, the company said. Similar devices are produced by Nvidia and AMD, but they have less power in comparison with the development of the Chinese manufacturer.
According to Wu, profits from the sale of devices for AI will be 40 percent of Bitmain's revenue in the next five years. Now the company earns only on the sale of devices for the production of cryptocurrency-in 2017, Bitmain received about 4 billion dollars.
