QuarkChain is a high-capacity peer-to-peer transactional system. It is a universal, open, and innovative blockchain system corresponding to the global commercial standards. The aim of QuarkChain is to expand the limits of blockchain usage by rising the current TPS thousands to millions times higher with the preservation of its invulnerability and freedom. The system has 3 main operational aspects:

  1. On-chain and off-chain transactions are possible and can be used simultaneously, providing wide scalability.
  2. Smart contracts through Ethereum virtual machine (EVM), the most famous engine, are supported and supplementary scalability-aware interferences are used, where smart contract data is operated by different shards.
  3. The number of addresses will equal the number of shards, while the user will most often work through primary account (address of a user in default shard) or temporally secondary account (the rest of user addresses in the rest shards) when the transaction requires one. This feature is based on the smart wallet that is promoted by QuarkChain as an open-source project.

Problems that are being solved by QuarkChain:

  1. Establishing attack-proof peer-to-peer network requires every node to function as a super-full node, which is very costly and would generate 20 Terabytes/day of traffic, dampening decentralization. QuarkChain solves this problem by facilitating multiple nodes of a cluster to act as a super-full node, where each node ratifies a sub-set of chain. Thus, the whole blockchain can be validated without big expenses. In case of crushing of one node others still can perform any block validation as any 2 nodes constitute a new cluster. Formation of these clusters is promoted by providing miners incentives to solve puzzles on information about random blocks. Downloading random blocks from the system is ineffective since the memory or storage intensive puzzle operates over a big quantity of blocks.
  2. Safe and effective cross-shard transactions. There are 2 types of transactions: in-shard (input and output adresses is in one shard) and cross-shard (input and output addresses are in different shards), the first being simple and the latter difficult due to the necessity to synchronize between the two shards. This issue is addressed by simplifying cross-shard transactions: any user any time can use any cross-shard transaction, which are confirmed in minutes; as quantity of shards rises, the transactions' throughput is scaled linearly; a user needs only one account for all addresses in all shards; smart wallet application will automatize all in-shard and cross-shard transactions, as well as smart contract.
  3. Making cross-chain transactions more available is done in 2 ways: to convert the tokens by an adapter and perform the transaction as a cross-shard from QuarkChain side or to allocate the other chain as a subchain (or shard) and perform the transaction as a cross-shard.
