See What I See: Steem OG In Canada
I tried my hand at Steem OG. A big thanks to @jonyoudyer for giving me the opportunity.
If you look, you know when the time is prime.
The photos (above ) are under 60 times magnification.
We have lots of cloudy trichomes and an underlying hue of amber, developing.
The 99 Pot Trick has worked like a charm. (AKA: hockey tape rigging.)
Cones are all a good size.
Flowers buds.
She’s a looker.
Smells like diesel, pine and grapefruit (now)...this has continued to develop over the last 3 months.
She’s expressing purple in the cooler temperatures that we are currently enjoying.
Yeah, it’s time. ;)

She’s a pleasure to grow...not too finicky. She played well with the others in the sandbox and when she was ready, it was obvious. First one in the life raft.
I made the decision to WD her. Lol! Not with the 40 kind.
I sort of Walt Disneied her completely.
She’s got 9 hours of freezing left. Filled 10 litres in equivalent volume (taking almost the entire capacity of the freeze dryer to do it.)
Found 175 seeds. First of all, massive plant and second she’s been screaming “I’m freezing over here” for the last 2 weeks (so no doubt she thought it was prudent to put some energy into seed.) Third, she’s been growing since January and her ability to give a shit about anything (at this point) is spent.
The debate with old growers continues...
Wait. Wait. Wait. Until the harvest moon. 3 more weeks.
I looked at her closely.
She didn’t have it in her to wait and then what?
Harvest 40 lbs in 7 days?
Old Martha’s got a few tricks up her sleeve and she’s not stupid. She can use a bit of technology because we’re not in the dark ages anymore. Lmfao!
It’s been a fantastic experiment and great learning experience for me as a relatively new grower.

Did you test for cannabinoid levels?
I’m guessing our plant is middle of the road...just by sight, smell, and touch.
Same here. Plenty of interesting terps in there too. :)
We didn't test yet, but have kept a sample (hard to do!) for doing so later.
We freeze dried the whole plant. Went into the machine at 3 lbs wet, came out 1 lb dried with 10 % humidity.
So, with the water weight inside the buds removed,
we were left with a beautiful hydrosol. (Complex terpenoid blend) that’s hitting somewhere between an eau de toilette and eau de parfum.
Not sure what I am going to make with the hydrosols yet.
Next, is to see how freeze dried concentrate will turn out.
After the Freeze Drying process, we looked at the flower under a microscope and all the trichomes and resin is still intact. It should work. Lol!

Usually the flowers are heavily trimmed by the time they’re on offer (for sale). I think the full flowers are absolutely gorgeous, especially when thecrystals sparkle in the sun. ;)
I havent ever touched a real live plant. Only proccessed cannabis. I bet your mind is Blown. I cant wait until I get to see one in person <3 They just look like christmas trees with snow glistening.
I just love thoes close ups. Must get me a microscope for next years crop.

I need better camera gear (than I currently have) for proper macros under magnification. (It was tricky to capture everything in focus, in a picture through a scope, pressed against a flowerhead.)
The big take home piece for me, is to learn when the plants (in my care) are at their peak ripeness.
Research suggests that the window is only 7 days.
If a grower doesn’t look, are we just going through the motions because we’ve been doing it that way for 25 years?
I ask:
Where’s the hard evidence, backing our harvesting decisions up?
