An interesting video covering the nature of reality [burnsteem100]
Interesting conversation from about 2 months ago (November 30, 2025). Lex Fridman interviews Michael Levin.:
Is the relationship between mind and brain similar to the relationship between math and physics? According to this guest, mathematical facts exist outside the physical world (1:38), and similarly, he suggests that the brain is an interface ("thin client") to a deeper reality where the mind exists (1:44).
This is related to an article I wrote a couple years ago, The Reality Illusion. In that post, I reviewed The Case Against Reality, a book where Computer Scientist Donald Hoffman argues that our perception of reality is akin to perceiving a computer's bits and bytes as a collection of files, folders, and mouse movements on a screen. The perception tells us nothing about the physical reality inside the computer. In fact, both participants mention Hoffman several times during the interview.
Update: It had slipped my mind, but this is also related to another Steem post that I made in 2020: Life as a geometry problem: Are these the first manmade living organisms?. Levin is also the creator of xenobots.
100% of rewards from this post are being burned. h/t Donald Hoffman
