The traditional farmer versus the current
The cultivation of plants began when the men produced their plant foods working and stopped depending on the simple collection of the vegetables they found. Agriculture is born when men begin to control the growth of some species of plants.
La vida en el campo ha cambiado. What does man do in agriculture?
The man in agriculture plays an important role since he is the one who creates the planting project, he is the one who plans organizes, he carries the work of purchase, he who tills the land, even without machinery is capable of preparing the land.
Man's action on the ecosystem.
All consuming organisms live off the exploitation of the ecosystem and the human species also needs to exploit it to ensure its survival. Nature obtains food and nature returns the waste that we generate with our activity. The energy we use is obtained, for the most part, from the combustion of reserves of carbon compounds (oil, coal, gas) stored by the work of the producers of the ecosystem over many millions of years.
At present, the functioning of most ecosystems can not be understood if human action is not taken into account. Given the number of individuals and the capacity of action that our species has at this time, the influence we exert on nature is enormous. The human biomass is of the order of one hundred thousandths of the total of the biosphere, but, qualitatively, its influence is very strong. Among the human actions that most influence the functioning of ecosystems we have.
Industrialization has transformed the lives of farmers and day laborers in many places. Now, most of them must know how to operate and maintain complex machines. In addition, it is increasingly common for them to work alone; the camaraderie that they enjoyed when sowing, digging and mowing in cuadrillas has become a simple memory.
In many countries a new type of farmer has emerged: the highly trained entrepreneur, dedicated to a few crops or even just one. He has made heavy investments in land, buildings and machinery, but is far from independent. Huge food companies and supermarket chains dictate not only the price of the products, but also the variety, size and color. Agronomist engineers design the exploitation system, and specialized companies supply the fertilizers, pesticides and hybrid seeds that best adapt to the characteristics of their property. It is true that it has advanced a great deal in comparison with its ancestors, but it is still struggling with serious problems, and there are those who are worried about the possible harmful effects of certain agricultural techniques.
How have they changed the world?
WHERE do you get your food? Do you buy them, or do you grow them yourself? Not long ago, most people practiced subsistence agriculture, that is, they lived off what they grew. But today, in some industrialized countries only 1 in 50 work the land. How did this huge transformation happen?
Advances in agricultural techniques were slow at first, but then gained momentum. Each one of them represented great changes for millions of families. At present, modernization is still under way in all nations. Analyzing its effects on the population will help us to better understand the world in which we live.
Life on the farm has also changed. For example, with the milking machines and automatic feeders, one farmer and one assistant are enough to take care of up to two hundred cows. In addition, the fattening of calves and pigs is faster, because when raising them indoors, their temperature and diet are better controlled.
Technology and the Internet is changing everything, even sometimes at a pace and in such a radical way that it is difficult for us to assimilate it. But the human mind is increasingly assuming these changes and society is also more receptive to it. This is why we are going to witness how in a short time new models are introduced in the world of food, which are favored by the use of technology in the field and that will surely change our habits at the food level, probably also with the objective to improve our health.
An important aspect of all this technology, is that it takes a lot of money to obtain those machinery and technological advances and with the world crisis of many countries, we must inculcate the traditional methods of agriculture so that the man continues sowing, continue producing his food to improve your quality of life.
