I often write about identity. It is an extremely important discovery for every individual. As a matter of fact, I have written here on Steemit about how you and I discover and determine our identities. It fascinates me how unique every human being is. People-watching is one of my favourite activities and the adventure of getting to know someone never pales.
The Bible repeatedly encourages us to be holy for God is holy. The word 'holy' simply means, utterly unique, unlike any other. We often fall into the trap of merely copying what we see others do. Your greatest joy, however, will be in discovering and celebrating that which makes you holy or utterly unique, unlike any other.
There are many physical attributes that emphasize this uniqueness. Your DNA. The patterns in the iris of your eye. Your fingerprints. The interesting thing I want to highlight today is that the DNA of twins are the same but their fingerprints are not. In fact, there is no greater likeness between the fingerprints of twins than there would be between yours and mine. The reason for this is simple. Your fingerprints are formed by the pressure of the amniotic fluid in the womb as a baby moves and turns. The composition of our mother’s amniotic fluid also has an impact.
The insight here is that one of the things that uniquely distinguishes you from every other human being on the planet is shaped as a result of outside pressure and your response to it. I think this is true of more than just our fingerprints.
Your circumstances, your challenges and your responses to such things are busy shaping you into a unique human being that never been seen before. There is no one else like you! Many may have the same troubles as you do or live in similar circumstances. You may even have siblings who grew up in the same house with the same parents. But you are unique because the combination of your circumstances, challenges, talents and responses to it all is producing someone never before seen.
May this be a week during which more of the beauty and uniqueness of who you are gets revealed. And may you look in the mirror and enjoy and appreciate what you see. You are one of a kind! Just like your fingerprint!
