Newcastle United ensured Chelsea will play in the Europa League next season with a three-mile thrashing of the former champions at St. James' Park on Sunday.

The Blues were looking to qualify for the biggest club competition with win over Rafa Benitez's wards while hoping that Brighton do them a favour by defeating Liverpool at Anfield.

Neither was the case as Newcastle saw out Chelsea courtesy of a a Dwight Hayle header and a brace from Ayoze Perez in what could be Antonio Conte's last Premier League game in charge of Chelsea while Liverpool thrashed Brighton 4-0.

This is the second season in a row that the defending champions will finish below the top four after Leicester two seasons ago.
