Olivier Giroud Blows Top Four Open
Olivier Giroud's strike was the only difference as Chelsea kept alive their hopes of a top four finish in the Premier League.
The Former Arsenal forward headed home just after the hour mark, meeting a near post cross from Victor Moses, to send the ball into Karius' far post.
Liverpool started the better of the two sides with early possession game but were unable to find the final pass to kill off series of fantastic swift play. Perhaps, a hangover from midweek Champions League action.
Chelsea could have gone two ahead after a fine display of skills from a Eden Hazard to beat three Liverpool defenders only to see his effort blocked by Karius in goal. Returning Marcos Alonso also saw his long range effort go wide off the post.
Liverpool failed to score in a second consecutive game for the first time since Jurgen Klopp took over at the Merseyside. Dominic Solanke coming on late into the game also spurned two glorious chances from within the penalty area, twice heading off the target mark.
The win now gives Chelsea a peep at a top four finish. The Blues currently placed fifth are three points behind 3rd placed Liverpool and two begin London rivals, Tottenham. They also have a game in hand over Liverpool however, the Reds have a more superior goal difference of 15 in the case they both win their remaining matches, Liverpool (1),Chelsea (2).
