ROMA vs BARCELONA

Roma recorded one of the three greatest comebacks in the Champions League history by overturning a 3 goal deficit from the first leg to qualify at the expense of Barcelona after winning 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico qualifying courtesy of an important away goal.

Barely anyone gave Roma a chance, not even me to secure a win, not to say qualifying, except for perhaps, die hard Roma fans. It was supposed to be a mountain for them to climb. It turned out, they're great mountain climbers.

The Italians got the much needed breakthrough and confidence Booster in the sixth minute when Eden Dzeko, who got the crucial away goal in Catalunya scored with a fine finish between two Barcelona defenders.

Roma should have been up by more than one goal at the interval, thanks to poor finishing and fine goalkeeping from Andre Ter Stergen to deny Roma.

It went from bad to worse when Gerard Pique brought down Dzeko in the penalty area and Daniele De Rossi who scored an own goal in the reverse fixture stepped up to slot past Ter Stergen in goal on the 58th minute.

Barcelona were a shadow of themselves all through the game, registering just one attempt in the first forty five minutes and it was all over when Manolas, who opened scoring for the Spanish giants with an own goal in the first leg met a corner on the near post to head past the Barcelona Goalkeeper in the 82nd minute, the goal that turned out to the game winner.

Barcelona prior to this game had only conceded three goals in the Champions League this season and would have to now focus fully on their League pursuit.

Roma have qualified for their first ever Champions League semifinal and their second ever in Europe. They have also joined Deportivo and Barcelona as the only teams to have overturned a 3+ goals deficit from the first leg of a Champions League knockout game

MANCHESTER CITY vs LIVERPOOL

Liverpool made a light work of their opponent as they defeated Man City for the third time this season 1-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

It was already a herculean task for the Citizens, having lost the first leg by three unreplied goals and they thought they had gotten the right momentum to keep them back on track when Gabriel Jesus scored as early as the 2nd minute of the game.

City were unable to break down a stubborn Jurgen Klopp side and were undone when Ederson failed to hold on to a Scramble ball between him, Nicolas Otamendi and Sadio Mane, allowing Mohammed Salah to chip home the equaliser. The goal was Salah's 8th of the Champions League campaign, the highest in a single season by a Liverpool player ever.

Roberto Firmino put the game beyond City's reach on the 77th minute when he capitalised on a Nicolas Otamendi error to slot past Ederson in goal.

Liverpool and Roma have now qualified for Thursday's semifinal draw.

Football and surprises, Roma defiled all odds and went on to dump barca. Really shocking. I guess the god of football wasn't on barca side. Great victory from As Roma and Liverpool. Well deserved

You can say that again. The unpredictability of football... That's what makes it interesting. There was barely no one who wasn't shocked, even Roma fans

So true :)

roma made my heart bleed so much
