I'm Creating A Steem App - An Alternative Feed
Well a website, at least. As well as being an activist/writer and photographer, I'm also a programmer. And this platform offers so many possibilities that it's been hard for me to ignore. So while my main activity here is supposed to be writing articles about social and economic justice (and in particular universal basic income), I've been sidetracked doing web development for the last week.
It's been quite a slog, given the lack of authoritative documentation about the Steem API, but with the help of some other developers I've been making progress. What I've been working on is an alternative feed to the steemit feed. One that allows more customisation and filtering. Personally I find the large number of posts in both the "New" and "Home" feeds, most of which I have little interest in reading, to be off-putting. Scrolling past endless posts to find the odd gem is a tedious process.
I'm also considering adding a sort of dashboard with useful general steem charts - like price of steem/sbd, posting volume, voting volume, powering-up/down trends, etc.
So, that's what I've been doing. To be honest, I'm not convinced it's something worth completing. Not least because I would have to buy a domain and hosting to serve it. Would this be something people would be interested in? If so, any other things you'd like to see in a modified feed and/or 'dashboard'?
Sounds like a cool project. Steemit definitely lacks customized filtering making it somewhat clunky to use. It takes too much effort to find the hidden gems.
What I'd really like to see is an overview of new/active/trending posts in tags that I like. I regularly go through the tags programming, steemdev, steemitdev, javascript and python manually and it's quite a chore. I wish I could just get posts in all those tags combined in one dashboard.
That's one of the things I've implemented. :) You can activate 1 to 5 tags at a time, and customise the tag list. Well, the customisation is the next thing on my to-do list.
The other main feature I've implemented so far is the ability to sort the feed by various cases - author, comments, votes, resteems, value.

Awesome!
